I sat him down and watched him cry
It took a while to calm him down
I told him how I loved his eyes
He wore his sadness like a clown
He holds his hands in a fraught tableau
Puts his fingers through the looking holes
His shoulders shake and his lips twist and curl
His eyes are blue but so's the rest of the world
You follow where the river leads
You'll reach the sea
Where the water and horizon meet
And the seabirds preen
But what's the river but it's bed?
He said to me
I feel an ocean in my chest
But there's no river there to guide me to it's shore
So til an angel comes and breaks the spell
He'll listen only to the ocean's shells
Until a child comes and makes him new
He'll just be waiting here beneath the blue
He's far away
My words are thin
The ocean blurring
The sunlight dim
Where's the bridge for him to cross?
And where was mine?
Is there something that he's lost?
I told him that I loved him
He is lost, but not alone
