Hands standing still and the bird
Waiting so patiently to take flight
Do you know you were built
Simply to tell me of the time of the day
Though your feathers won't fray
Leaves appear to be in flight though
Dust stops your lacquer from catching light and
Your little door, always closed
Are you trapped or just hiding inside?
Where you choose to ignore
That you work perfectly in my eyes
How could you possibly have a clue?
When all you ever offer is a thoughtless cuckoo
Years passing by as you hang
On the wall overlooking the rooms
As they change rearrange
As we grow and move on but still you're always there
On your face that blank stare
All your gears stopped keeping time
Years ago when I was nine
Your little door, always closed
Are you trapped or just hiding inside?
Where you choose to ignore
That you work perfectly in my eyes
How could you possibly have a clue?
When all you ever offer is a thoughtless cuckoo
I sit and watch your cuckoo clock
But the little door won't hear my knock
I know you're in there perched and waiting
But the clock face stares hands limply hanging and
Sometimes late into the night
Through all the quiet I think I might just
Hear a little cuckoo bird sing a song it knows should not be heard
Says
My purpose is to tell time
I thought I was blessed with this knowledge but I was so soon to find
I suffer from an affliction yes, this awful disposition
To know what I am meant to do but
Know my clock's hands will not run true and
I, I am a broken little cuckoo bird whose song should never again be heard yes
I, I am a broken little cuckoo bird whose song should not be heard
Your little door, always closed (My little door, always closed)
Are you trapped or just hiding inside? (I'm not trapped I'm just hiding inside)
Where you choose to ignore (Where I choose to ignore)
That you work perfectly in my eyes (That I work perfectly in your eyes)
How could you possibly have a clue? (How could you possibly have a clue?)
When all you ever offer is a thoughtless cuckoo (Cuckoo)
All you ever offer is a thoughtless cuckoo (Cuckoo)
