THINGS BEHIND THINGS BEHIND THINGS

I would like the feeling
I would like the feeling
I would like the feeling gone
'Cause I don't like the way it's-
I don't like the way it's-
I don't like the way it's looking
I get caught looking
In the mirror on the regular
What I see there resembles some competitor
I see things behind things behind things
And there are rings within rings within rings

I can't go through the motions
I can't go through the motions
How'm I supposed to do this now?
Say we went out strolling
Say we went out strolling
Say I went and told them how
I am afraid of changing
And when it comes a time to check and rearrange shit
There are things behind things behind things
And there are rings within rings within rings

I

I got caught compiling
I got caught compiling
I got caught compiling my own news
I never lose
And who's the benefactor?
And how to move without touching every interactor
When there are things behind things behind things
(A little further)
And there are rings within rings within rings

Speyside

I know now that I can't make good
How I wish I could
Go back and put
Me where you stood
Nothing's really something now the whole thing's soot

It serves to suffer, make a hole in my foot
And I hope you look
As I fill my book
Oh, what a waste of wood
Nothing's really happened like I thought it would

Ah, ah, ah

I can't rest on no dynasty
Yeah, what is wrong with me?
Man, I'm so sorry
I got the best of me
I really damn been on such a violent spree

But maybe you can still make a man from me
Here on Speyside quay
With what's left of me
As you live and breathe
I really know now what had hold on me

AWARDS SEASON

I can handle
Way more than I can handle
So I keep reaching for the handle
To flood my heart
And the Spaniard
In song that I have pandered to
Is always handing me the anvil
Saying, "That's for you"
But then you came to me
From Olympic heavy duty
We both needed so much soothing
Played you Rickie Lee
Oh, how everything can change
In such a small time frame
You can be remade
You can live again
What was pain now's gain
A new path gets laid
And you know what is great
Nothing stays the same

Felt you through me
In every clue you threw me
Pointing at me asking, "Who, me?"
What a start
And you had taken
All away my aching
Well, how could I ever thank you?
I'd been received
But I'm a sable
And honey, us the fable
You said that you were unable
That it's not reprieved
Oh, but maybe things can change
What can wax can wane
Things can get replayed
And if it's all the same
Oh, just take my hand
And place it on your blame
And let it wash away
With you I will remain

You came over
Short after it was over
You, as precious as a clover
In a meadow's sun
You had no answers
So we laid back to backs and
Clasped treasure with our hands and
Held all fate
But now it's the season
And I know I will be seein' ya
On the TV for some reason
God, my heart
Why do things gotta change?
We were on our way
To be best to face
All that comes in gray
It's so hard to explain
And the facts are strange
But you know what will stay?
Everything we've made

Short Story

Oh, the vibrance
Sun in my eyes (it gets brighter)
'Til you can not longer see (and you're not lonely)
And you are no longer growing (to face up)
That January ain't the whole world

And falling's really over shown
And you're never really, really on your own

First thing is just be watched
Time heals, and then it repeats
You will never be complete
And the strain and thirst are sweet
You have not yet gone too deep

Everything Is Peaceful Love

Don't even go too fast, mama
I'm steady on a rock trippin'
I'll tell you that I'm not slippin'
But tell me not a thing rippin'
Let's say that there will be lippin'
I'm standing on top blinkin'
I'd tell you that I don't know
But you're favored now by fifty
And I'm right at home

And damn, if I'm not climbing up a tree right now
And everything is peaceful love
And right in me
And I know that we may go and change someday
I couldn't rightly say
That's for parting days

What I went and thought about
All in one day
Is simply in-divisible?
As we go our separate ways
Have you already spoken?
Did I hear you say?
Did I already hear you say?
When you're gone
That's a long, old weight of mine

And damn, if I'm not climbing up a tree right now
And every little thing is love
And right with me
And how am I to know that someday you might change the road?
I caught an offering
That's a burning ring

Is it just coming or going?
Or will it hang around?
For a long, long time
Well, I've had too much
And not nearly enough
'Cause I'm afraid with that love
And then they make me this way
I, I'll just go ahead away!
On the loose
The opposite of fools!
I will run the table all through
'Cause I still don't know the truth

But damn, if I'm not climbing up a tree right now
And everything is peaceful love
And right in me
And I know that someday you may change someway
I couldn't rightly say
That's for parting ways

Walk Home

Walk home
Wanna be inside with you
Oh, walk home, back
Wanna be inside with you, 'side with you

Can we stay inside this place?
Pull me close up to your face
Honey, I just want the taste
Uh, gimme right away
There's just no more I can say sometimes
It's more than I can take

No, we don't need no window curtains
And we can let the light come in
And we can shed your earthly burdens
Of this I am certain of
You was made for me

Walk home
Wanna be inside with you
Oh, walk home, back
Wanna be inside with you, 'side with you

And my heart is feeling large
Like you really are in charge
Baby, is this some mirage to mine?
My mind of white golden
And if I just get too high sometimes
It's I've just learned to walk

No, we don't need no window curtains
And we can let the light come in
And we can shed your earthly burdens
Of this I am certain of
You was made for me
(You was made for me, baby)

Walk home
Wanna be inside with you
Oh, walk home, back
Wanna be inside
Wanna be inside with you

Day One

Been a long while now coming up
Thought we were past it, thought we'd patched it up
Thought the title had passed hands
Thought we'd had enough
But the sun's gonna go ahead and tag right up
We don't understand what we're standing on
And we sure come in blind
With our timing

So I've culled what I can't tame
I have taken all that I can take
And it got bad enough
I thought that I would leave

Well, I wish you could take that right off
All that shit that rips you right up
And you'd know that we'd been taught all this from day one
From day one
Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo (hmm)

Same old town and you're passing through
Signs of live and die for you
There's a million ways you're falling through
The cost of your mind
Some may say that you lack the stuff
And you burn it down and clack your cuffs
But you may have to toughen up
While unlearning that lie

I'll go find the tap wire
I'll go put the pathfinder on waltz

Well, can I get a rewind?
Just this once, if you don't mind
I don't know who I am without ya
'Cause I feel a wild one now comin' on
I told you to be patient, I swore that I was wrong
So why can't we both just now get to understand?
From day one

All this was dry land
Yes, you have just always had your band
But you get sad enough because it's all you seek

(Oh, hop on, it'll all be gone) You don't have to take so very long
And you can't have it for a song
And that's why I have rattled on
From day one
From day one
(Yeah-eah)
(Oh yeah)
(Wahoo)

From

I can see where you're coming from
I got time, I can give you some
I just love it when you call me "Baby"
Though it's happening less lately

I can fit
I can fit it all
Nothing's really wrong so
From now on

Don't let it trouble your mind, your mind
Just take my love in your time

No need to hurry
Give me your worry
We can just keep it here for now

When I called you from the hotel
You said you were doing well
But I could tell
Just last May there was confetti in the car
And now, it seems we're far apart
But I'm ready

Don't you feel me?
Don't you feel compelled?
Oh, you now can just be yourself
From now on

Don't let it trouble your mind, your mind
Just take my love in your time

I am ready, run from fear
I'm from somewhere far from here
So tell me when the coast is clear
Wanna kiss you ear from ear
Can I take another year?
Must I be so damn severe?
From the valley to the pier
I'm beset with what we could become

Tell me you're ready
I can see where you're coming from
I'm holding steady
We can just keep it here for now

I'll Be There

Said, "I'll be there"
I won't move, move
Tell me more, or tell me nothing
Said, "I'll be there"
I won't move, move
Tell me more, or tell me nothing (move, move)

Don't go on about it
Stuck on stand by
Ain't a riddle for me
Where your head's at
How we thought about it
Nothing, does it have to be?
You can have all my love for free (I can)
And I will keep the fire in me
Even if it takes all goddamn night

(I) Said, "I'll be there"
I won't move, move
Tell me more, or tell me nothing
Said, "I'll be there"
I won't move, move
Tell me more, or tell me nothing

Don't you dare go down
Tape the Polaroid to your dome
Keep the sad shit off the phone
And get your fine ass on the road
Girl, it's time that I do testify
Whoa-whoa
No more alone

I hear you coming, "I'll be there"
I won't move, move
Tell me more, or tell me nothing (move, move)
Said, "I'll be there when you're gone"
I'll be there when you come home
And I'll be there (move)
Tell me more, or tell me nothing
I'll be there, I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there when you're gone
And I'll be there when you come home
And I'll be there
Tell me more, or tell me nothing
And I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there, there, there
I won't move, move
Tell me more, or tell me nothing (move, move)
Said, "I'll be there"

If Only I Could Wait

[ Featuring Danielle Haim ]

If only I could wait
If only I could wait

If only I could wait
But before me is a ways out
Can I live inside this state?
Where the summers are charades now
Can I incur the weight?
Am I really this afraid now?

For what's at stake
Oh, babe
I'll take the pain

If only you could wait
I ain't up at your pace yet
I take the steps to stage
And they hit me with the rays now
But if I could only pray
In the blaze of a northern bar
I'd bend another straight
We'll decay in other ways now

If only you could wait (I, I know that it's hard)
Or is it folded either way now? (To keep holding)
The common leads away (keep holding strong)
But is it only years away now? (Keep holding on)
I have come to learn replace (I, I know that it's best)
And I resemble other traits of the Lord (To keep going)
I have rendered other fates (these memories hold)
And I've been prowling on the brakes now (these memories fade)

But what a taste
Oh, babe
In every way
Not for the freight
I'm best alone
In high ways

There's a Rhythmn

Can I feel another way?
Or are less and more the same?
Can I really still complain?
To be back here once again
There are miles and miles of tape
You can watch it, it's been saved
There's a rhythmn to reclaim
Get tall and walk away

There's a rhythmn, there's a rhythmn
There's a rhythmn, there's a rhythmn

I've had one home that I've known
And maybe it's the time to go
I could leave behind the snow
For a land of palm and gold
But there are miles and miles to go (uh)
And I've been down this road before
There's another chance to show
No need to crow no more

Da-da-da-da-da-da
Day rider, day rider
Stay lighter, stay lighter
Da-da-da-da-da-da
Day fighter, day fire
Stay minding, and mind it

I went to see you there in Spain
That was a month ago and change
And now I think you need some space
I will pause and stand with spade
'Cause you really are a babe
And how you treat me good your way
You know I've really no more shame
Now things really are arranged

There's a rhythmn, there's a rhythmn
There's a rhythmn, there's a rhythmn
There's a rhythmn, there's a rhythmn

There's a rhythmn, there's a rhythmn
There's a rhythmn, there's a rhythmn

Sable, Fable (stylized as SABLE, fABLE) is the fifth studio album by American indie folk band Bon Iver, released on April 11, 2025, via Jagjaguwar. The album is a continuation of the Sable EP (2024), which it includes as a separate disc. Marking the band's first album in nearly six years since I, I (2019), it features guest appearances from Dijon, Flock of Dimes, and Danielle Haim, with additional contributions from Kacy Hill, Jacob Collier and Mk.gee, among others.

Musically, it deviates from Bon Iver's predominantly folk-leaning output showcased on Sable into contemporary R&B stylings, with influences of pop and soul music.
