Wayne Coyne explained:
"Back in 1983 when we were approaching our first gig, we really didn't know what we were gonna be called.
...I'd read somewhere about a group called the Flaming Hands, which was a name I'd liked and that led
to the Flaming Lips.
...I even remember making a flyer for the show where I cut out a picture of
a woman with her legs spread and put a mouth over her, uh, parts - so there was this idea of a throbbing
orifice. It just proves that if a man is completely left to his own devices, he'll always go straight
for vaginas."

The Flaming Lips Quotes:
"It goes further than writing songs and music, after a while that can only take you so far."
Wayne Coyne
"In the UK music actually influences people on an everyday level, whereas here life goes on pretty much in the same dismal boring them regardless of what records are made. "
Wayne Coyne
Let's hope it never does because there is still a thrill in doing new things just because you can. That is part and partial of what The Flaming Lips are all about. I don't think it is better than before, they are just new possibilities.
Wayne Coyne
Within the realm of rock and roll, I'm, surprised more people don't do freaky shit like that all the time. I wanted to do it. I've been making records for 20 years now and just thought if anyway was going to do it, I had to do it. Not because the world needs these things. I just think they are kind of interesting. 5:1 has the same possibilities. Who knows what you can do with it. It is all still music in the end.

We started to get the calls. Me and my wife were driving out to San Francisco and friends called to say they saw on CNN were had been nominated for a Grammy.
