Luke Combs - The Way I Am Lyrics

Back In The Saddle

I've been gone for a little too long
+
I've been waitin' on the drummer to kick off a comeback song
+
I've been waitin' in the wings like a dog on a chain
+
I can feel this fire buildin' up a little wild in it
+
Went and checked the wire, sure enough, there's live in it
+
Try to stop it, but I can't
+
It's callin' my name
+
'Cause I'm back in the saddle like some old cowboy
+
Who dug his way out of his grave
+
Pulled up his boots, put his pistol on his hip
+
Climbed up and took hold of the reins
+
Don't worry where I've been, I'm back in the saddle again
+
This time, I'm takin' what's mine
+
Like a long lost out west outlaw outta his mind
+
I'm ridin' in the town, no turnin' back now
+
'Cause I'm back in the saddle like some old cowboy
+
Who dug his way out of his grave
+
Pulled up his boots, put his pistol on his hip
+
Climbed up and took hold of the reins
+
Don't worry where I've been, I'm back in the saddle again
+
'Cause I'm back in the saddle like some old cowboy

+
Pulled up his boots, put his pistol on his hip

My Kinda Saturday Night

Dang, I ain't ever puttin' WD-40 on this front porch chain
+
I can't, but I can almost hear that paycheck droppin' in the bank
+
I don't know what's gonna happen tonight
+
But there's a good chance it's gonna sound like
+
Boots on the back porch, stompin' on the 2-4
+
Little bit of longneck clank
+
Tires on the chert rock, Bubba Shot the Jukebox
+
Bendin' them guitar strings
+
Cold can packin' and some old boys crackin' on whatever's in the cooler lite
+
Sure sounds like my kinda Saturday night
+
Hot damn, you oughta hear a tailgate droppin' on an old Dodge Ram
+
Or all my rowdy friends
+
Standin' 'round a bonfire drinkin', singin' 'Pickup Man'
+
Howlin' like some Bluetick hounds
+
Man, I almost hear it now
+
Boots on the back porch, stompin' on the 2-4
+
Little bit of longneck clank
+
Tires on the chert rock, Bubba Shot the Jukebox
+
Bendin' them guitar strings

Days Like These

Days like these are worth more than gold
+
But they can't be bought and they can't be sold
+
On days like these, when the sun shines bright
+
I feel like it's all gonna be alright
+
When the sky is blue and the grass is green
+
How much better can it be?
+
If I got you and you got me
+
We got everything we need
+
And even if it grew on trees
+
Well, money can't buy days like these
+
They don't come around as much as they ought to
+
So soak 'em up when they do
+
But those days like these, they don't get forgot
+
And if you think it through, they're all we got
+
When the sky is blue and the grass is green
+
How much better can it be?
+
If I got you and you got me
+
We got everything we need
+
'Cause even if it grew on trees
+
Money can't buy days like these
+
When the sky is blue and the grass is green
+
How much better can it be?
+
If I got you and you got me
+
Then we got everything we need
+
Yeah, even if it grew on trees
+
Well, I'd probably miss the leaves
+
Nah, money can't buy days like these

15 Minutes

Hey there, mama, how you been?
+
Thought I'd call and check on in
+
See how things are going back at home
+
Tell me, how's your garden doin'?
+
I'm sure the daffodils are bloomin'
+
And what you got for supper on the stove?
+
It sounds like you're doing fine
+
Me, I'm gettin' by
+
There's a chain gang waitin' in a long line to use this phone
+
Same old view, a cinder block room, same old jumpsuit on
+
Just tryin' to make the best of the rest of this life sentence
+
But enough about me, I only get fifteen minutes
+
Not dwellin' on it makes it better
+
What books you readin'? How's the weather?
+
Think Dad'll ever talk to me again?
+
Does he still drink beer with his buddies?
+
Are you still teachin' Bible study?
+
Does Jesus really forgive all my sins?
+
Well, all kinds of things cross your mind
+
With all this doin' time
+
And a chain gang waitin' in a long line to use this phone
+
Same old view, a cinder block room, same old jumpsuit on
+
I'm just tryin' to make the best of the rest of this life sentence
+
But enough about me, I only get fifteen minutes
+
The warden's in here tappin' on his watch
+
I love you, mom, but I gotta go, I got
+
A chain gang waitin' in a long line to use this phone
+
Same old view, a cinder block room, same old jumpsuit on
+
Just tryin' to make the best of the rest of this life sentence
+

Alcohol Of Fame

She left me standin' on a porch down in Georgia
+
Had me beggin', yellin', "Baby, don't leave!"
+
She had her middle finger wavin' out the window
+
Like she didn't give a damn about me
+
I'd-a been better off
+
But she took the dog
+
And left me with nothin' to do
+
But head down to the bar
+
And get a head start
+
On healin' these heartbreak blues
+
I need a long-neck bottle, I need a jukebox song
+
I need a neon angel to kick-start my movin' on
+
When they turn them go-home lights on, I swear they're gonna know my name
+
I'm 'bout to drink myself into the alcohol of fame
+
Hey, right around last call
+
They'll hang my picture on the wall
+
I'll give 'em all a barstool speech
+
I'll thank Jim and Jack
+
For havin' my back
+
And her for walkin' out on me
+
I need a long-neck bottle, I need a jukebox song
+
I need a neon angel to kick-start my movin' on
+
When they turn them go-home lights on, I swear they're gonna know my name
+
I'm 'bout to drink myself into the alcohol of fame
+
Well, I can see a statue of me in that parkin' lot
+
Smokin' a cigarette and twistin' off a top
+
I need a long-neck bottle, I need a jukebox song
+
I need a neon angel to kick-start my movin' on
+
When they turn them go-home lights on, I swear they're gonna know my name
+
I'm 'bout to drink myself into the alcohol of fame
+
Yeah, I'll take all the credit
+
And she'll take all the blame
+
And I'm 'bout to drink myself into the alcohol of fame

Daytona 499

There we were coming 'round the bend
+
One lap away from checkers in the wind
+
Turn one, turn two, turn three
+
They never saw nothing like you and me
+
Down on the inside, leading the pack
+
Your hand on my knee, my foot on the gas
+
Making moves up front
+
Everybody was rooting for us
+
We coulda been Earnhardt
+
In that 3 car
+
Down in victory lane
+
Standing on the hood with
+
That Goodwrench
+
Wasting good champagne
+
We coulda been burning out 'stead of burning out before that finish line
+
But we were Daytona 499
+
We had a hell of a lead, had it running good
+
The whole grandstand was thinking we would
+
Take the whole thing home
+
Yeah, girl, we were good as gone
+
Looking back now, we were moving too fast
+
Had plenty good tires, not enough gas
+
The part that hurts the most
+
Is, girl, we were so damn close
+
We coulda been Earnhardt
+
In that 3 car
+
Down in victory lane

The Way I Am

I'm sorry, baby, I really tried to change
+
It's like there's something broken in my brain
+
The more I try to fix it, the less I understand
+
But you still love me just the way I am
+
Yeah, I know it's always mostly me to blame
+
But I can't outrun the wild that's in my veins
+
I'm a walking contradiction, but a well-intentioned man
+
So you still love me just the way I am
+
You know that you are the damnedest most beautiful thing
+
I've ever seen
+
You could have had anyone in the world that you wanted
+
But you wanted me
+
I swear the world is spinning way too fast
+
'Cause I'm still learning lessons from my past
+
And sometimes I let the moments slip right through my hands
+
But you still love me just the way I am
+
You know that you are the damnedest most beautiful thing
+
I've ever seen
+
You could have had anyone in the world that you wanted
+
But you wanted me
+
So I guess I'm just a horse you'll never break
+
And I'm probably always gonna be this way
+
But I'll always come running when you reach out your hand
+
'Cause you still love me just the way I am
+
You still love me just

Just the way I am

Wish Upon a Whiskey

Jack Daniels, black label
+
Empty dinning room table
+
Here we go again
+
Another last resort, so help me Jesus
+
The silence, so quiet
+
It's filling my mind with everything we were that wasn't
+
Once again, I fall to pieces
+
I gave up on a shooting star
+
It'd have to fall down way too far
+
To fix this kinda feeling that I'm feeling
+
I tried the back pew of that church
+
Read every chapter, every verse
+
But all my prayers, they always hit the ceiling
+
So I do the only thing that don't make me feel empty
+
Pull that bottle out and wish upon a whiskey
+
No chance at redemption
+
When there's no one listening
+
Tryna keep my head above the water
+
I'm my own worst enemy
+
'Cause I just keep drowning in this Tennessee
+
Here comes the burn
+
I love to hate
+
It's all I got
+
Ever since
+
I gave up on a shooting star
+
It'd have to fall down way too far
+
To fix this kinda feeling that I'm feeling
+
I tried the back pew of that church
+
Read every chapter, every verse

Pull that bottle out and wish upon a whiskey
+
No chance at redemption
+
When there's no one listening
+
Tryna keep my head above the water
+
I'm my own worst enemy
+
'Cause I just keep drowning in this Tennessee
+
Here comes the burn
+
I love to hate
+
It's all I got
+
Ever since
+
I gave up on a shooting star
+
It'd have to fall down way too far
+
To fix this kinda feeling that I'm feeling
+
I tried the back pew of that church
+
Read every chapter, every verse
+
But all my prayers, they always hit the ceiling
+
So I do the only thing that don't make me feel empty
+
Pull that bottle out and wish upon a whiskey

Soon As I Get Home

Been chasing them headlights through a midnight windshield
+
With a too-long highway under my wheels
+
Come on, DJ. Play me on down the road
+
I ain't seen a mile yet where I don't miss you
+
Or been through a town that made me wanna slow down
+
Come on, county line. Tell me I'm getting close
+
Baby, leave that come-back porch light on
+
With any luck, I'll be pulling up before too long
+
I've been out here running this rolling stone
+
But I'm gonna love making up for all my gone
+
Soon as I get home
+
Soon as I get home
+
It's crazy how a picture on a dusty dashboard
+
Can really make a man wanna make good time
+
I got thirty more miles left, two red lights, and one stop sign
+
Before you're mine
+
Baby, leave that come-back porch light on
+
With any luck, I'll be pulling up before too long
+
I've been out here running this rolling stone
+
But I'm gonna love making up for all my gone
+
Soon as I get home
+
Soon as I get home
+
I can't get there fast enough
+
But, baby, just know: soon enough
+
Me and you'll be tangled up
+
In a "Damn! I missed you."
+
Come here, baby. Let me kiss you
+
Baby, leave that come-back porch light on
+
With any luck, I'll be pulling up before too long
+
'Cause I've been out here running this rolling stone
+
But I'm gonna love making up for all my gone
+
Soon as I get home
+
Soon as I get home

Soon as I get home

Rethink Some Things

Hold up
+
That good God-almighty
+
10-of-a-body's got me all tore up
+
I know before
+
I said, "No more,"
+
But no more's not enough
+
It's tough
+
'Cause that game that you're playing's ruthless
+
And I'm fine every time losing
+
'Cause truth is
+
You're the kinda woman make a man rethink some things
+
Kind that makes a made-up mind start questioning
+
Everything he wanted
+
Girl, you're gonna make it hard to leave
+
You're the kinda woman make a man rethink some things
+
I thought
+
For sure I was through
+
But one look from you
+
And we ain't through at all
+
I try to leave
+
And you get to weaving
+
Make my "run away"
+
"Wanna stay"
+
All wrapped up in your cobwebs
+
You play your game with my heart
+
It's exhausting
+
'Cause you're the kinda woman make a man rethink some things
+
Kind that makes a made-up mind start questioning
+
Everything he wanted
+
Girl, you're gonna make it hard to leave
+
You're the kinda woman make a man rethink some things
+
There ain't much that I can do
+
When you're the flame, and I'm the fuse
+
I gave up not giving in to you
+
'Cause you're the kinda woman make a man rethink some things
+
Kind that makes a made-up mind start questioning
+
Everything he wanted

Girl, you're gonna make it hard to leave

Giving Her Away

On any other weekend
+
At least one of us would be pulled off a road
+
Tackle box, cork dropped in a creek bend
+
Hand reelin' on a Zebco
+
But today, there's a line out the front door
+
Bunch of folks that we know ain't ever seen
+
A fresh shine on our Fords
+
And us not in a pair of jeans
+
Oh, yeah, she's your little girl
+
And oh, she's my whole world
+
Only she could've got us both in suits
+
Only she could've got us out our boots
+
Fightin' back every tear that we both knew
+
We were gonna cry today
+
Neither one of us knows what to do
+
Standin' up in front of a crowded room
+
On a springtime Saturday afternoon
+
With both our lives about to change
+
Man, you brought your baby
+
I brought a ring
+
I'm givin' her my name
+
And you're givin' her away
+
Yeah, I know it's gotta be tough
+
And you're happy, but you're hurting behind that smile
+
You'll always be her first love
+
And mine's walking down the aisle
+
That song's about to play
+
We're gonna say, "I do"
+
And for the rest of my days
+
I'll do my best to fill your shoes
+
Only she could've got us both in suits
+
Only she could've got us out our boots
+
Fightin' back every tear that we both knew
+
We were gonna cry today

Neither one of us knows what to do

+
And you're givin' her away
+
I'm sayin', "I love you"
+
And you're saying, "Goodbye"
+
You're lettin' her hand go
+
Puttin' it in mine
+
Only she could've got us both in suits
+
Only she could've got us out our boots
+
Fightin' back every tear that we both knew
+
We were gonna cry today

Seeing Someone

My buddies say it's time to turn the page
+
"She's movin' on and you should too"
+
Every single friend with a single friend
+
Says, "She'd be perfect for you"
+
A pretty blonde walks in all alone
+
They ask, "Why don't you say hello?"
+
Asked for her name, but they don't know
+
I've been seeing someone
+
Sometimes she shows up late at night
+
Slips down the hall and I kill the lights
+
Like a midnight silhouette
+
Slow dancin' up them steps
+
There's a memory livin' in this house
+
I ain't all alone 'cause she ain't gone
+
Call me crazy, but I think I need to see somebody
+
'Cause I've been seeing someone
+
Could be a chance that I'm obsessed
+
But I swear that stereo's possessed
+
I turn it on and hear our song
+
And see her in that dress
+
Sure the breeze can blow that front porch swing
+
But old glory sure don't make it seem
+
Like there's any wind out there, I think
+
I've been seeing someone
+
Sometimes she shows up late at night

Sleepless In A Hotel Room

I can hear the lonely howling out my window
+
I can feel the whiskey not doing a thing
+
Two in the morning, TV's on and I've never felt so far from home
+
I can hear the lonely howling out my window
+
The morning light can't come too soon
+
Lying here not next to you
+
Wide awake, I dream of you
+
Sleepless in a hotel room
+
Whoa
+
Whoa
+
I wonder if you're staring at our bedroom ceiling
+
Lying right beside a glass of wine
+
I wonder if you're tossing, turning, wishing you were kissing me
+
Staring at our bedroom ceiling
+
The morning light can't come too soon
+
Lying here not next to you
+
Wide awake, I dream of you
+
Sleepless in a hotel room
+
Whoa
+
Whoa
+
All four walls are painted blue, sleepless in a hotel room
+
A thousand miles past missing you
+
The morning light can't come too soon
+
Lying here not next to you
+
Wide awake, I dream of you

I Ain't No Cowboy

Well, I knew the day I met her
+
One day I'd have to forget her
+
But that didn't stop me from tryin' to hold her
+
Like the river holds the rain
+
She always wanted wide open spaces
+
And I tried my best to tame her
+
But I would have been better off breakin'
+
A herd of wild mustangs
+
I ain't no cowboy, but I wish I was
+
We'd a rode off together in the settin' sun
+
'Stead of watchin' her ride right out of my life
+
If I coulda roped her heart back in
+
I coulda been what she needed when
+
She saddled up, and she kicked up a cloud of dust
+
I ain't no cowboy, but now I wish I was
+
If I coulda been more like John Wayne
+
I coulda found a way to make her stay
+
But she was a Lorie Darlin' lookin' for her Gus McCrae
+
And at the end of the day
+
I ain't no cowboy, but I wish I was
+
We'd a rode off together in the settin' sun
+
'Stead of watchin' her ride right out of my life

Ever Mine

[ Featuring Alison Krauss ]

My dearest darling, I miss you more than words can tell
+
I hope the garden's growing tall
+
You're in good spirits and good health
+
We've traveled far now, with a long way to go still
+
I know not yet when I'll return or if I ever will
+
Each day grows colder, filled with powder, smoke and steel
+
I worry 'fore it's over I'll forgotten how to feel
+
I keep your picture in the pocket of my coat
+
I sometimes find when I'm alone it's my last bit of hope
+
Amidst the grips of these troubled times
+
A way back to you, I always find
+
You're the wind that whispers through the pines
+
Bloom in the rose, green on the vine
+
Until we meet again my love sincerely signed
+
I'm ever yours, you're ever mine
+
Some of these boys aren't much older than our own
+
They fight like men and then get cut down before they're grown
+
This is my prayer
+
That our daughter and our sons wrap their arms around each other
+
And never around a gun
+
Amidst the grips of these troubled times
+
A way back to you, I'll always find
+
You're the wind that whispers through the pines
+
Bloom in the rose, green on the vine
+
Until we meet again my love sincerely signed
+
I'm ever yours, you're ever mine
+
If you should hear it's come my time
+
A way back to you, I'll always find
+
I'll be the wind that whispers through the pines
+
Pitch in the black, star in the shine
+
We'll meet again on the other side
+
I'm ever yours, you're ever mine

If you should hear it's come my time

Can't Tell Me I'm Wrong

Tell me I'm wrong, but you look like you're lookin' for somebody to drink with
+
The way that you're leanin' up against the bar
+
Tell me I'm wrong
+
Seems like you wanna know what my name is, babe
+
It's Mr. Never Break Your Heart
+
Mr. Want You in My Arms
+
You can tell me I'm crazy for tryin' to turn a one night thing into more
+
Tell me it's the 80 proof that I've been sippin' on
+
Makin' me think I might be in love
+
If you're thinkin' you're too good for me, then you'd be right
+
But we got something tween us goin on tonight
+
You can't tell me I'm wrong
+
Tell me a song and I'll get the jukеbox cued up playin' it
+
'Cause I know a Brooks & Dunn girl no mistakin' it
+
And I know a fire whеn it's burnin' a kiss when it's turning to two
+
Tell me I'm crazy, for tryin' to turn a one night thing into more
+
Tell me it's the 80 proof that I've been sippin' on, makin' me think I might be in love
+
If you're thinkin' you're too good for me, then you'd be right
+
But we got something tween us goin on tonight
+
You can't tell me I'm wrong
+
You can tell me you ain't stayin' the night
+
But you can't tell me it ain't crossed your mind
+
You can tell me that we're movin' too fast
+
But you can't tell me you ain't lovin' that
+
Tell me I'm crazy, for tryin' to turn a one night thing into more
+
Tell me it's the 80 proof that I've been sippin' on, makin' me think I might be in love

Miss You Here

Brand-new truck, still smell the leather
+
Ain't a mile on it of you and me together
+
In the rear-view mirror
+
Aw, I shouldn't miss you here
+
Little one-horse town west of Arizona
+
Million miles from the stars we kissed under
+
On a night this clear
+
Aw, I shouldn't miss you here
+
Where do I gotta go to run from your memory?
+
What do I gotta do to keep my heart from killing me?
+
Oh, I should've never let you go
+
How do you know what dive bar I'm drinking at?
+
Why can't I get so gone that the want-you-back disappears?
+
Oh, I shouldn't miss you here
+
Met a good girl, got a good thing going
+
But it don't feel right layin' there holding her
+
Thinking of you
+
I hate what you make me do
+
Where do I gotta go to run from your memory?
+
What do I gotta do to keep my heart from killing me?
+
Oh, I should've never let you go
+
How do you know what dive bar I'm drinking at?
+
Why can't I get so gone that the want-you-back disappears?
+
Oh, I shouldn't miss you here
+
Ain't nowhere that I've found
+
Where your ghost ain't tracked me down
+
So, what do I gotta do to run from your memory?
+
What do I gotta do to keep my heart from killing me?

Oh, I should've never let you go

Tell 'Em About Tonight

Someday these lights are gonna fade
+
Some other good ol' boy'll be on this stage
+
And the only place you might see my name
+
Is on a T-shirt in a closet taking up space
+
Yeah, someday they won't wanna turn me up
+
And them records on the wall will start to rust
+
When what I never thought I'd do turns into what I've done
+
And I get to reminiscing on my time in the sun
+
'Bout the boys in the back with the beers up high
+
And the girls in the front row singing every line
+
I'm gon' think about them lighters way up in the sky
+
And how we rode that rocket as far as it could fly
+
Yeah, when somebody someday, way on down the line
+
Says, "Tell me something you're proud of when you think about your life,"
+
I'm gon' tell 'em 'bout my kids, gon' tell 'em 'bout my wife
+
And you damn right
+
I'm gon' tell 'em 'bout tonight
+
I'll think about guitars roaring out the speakers
+
Cowboy boots stomping in the bleachers
+
And that feeling in the air, lighting that live wire
+
Dreamers dancing in the dark with their hearts on fire
+
And the boys in the back with the beers up high
+
And the girls in the front row singing every line
+
I'm gon' think about them lighters way up in the sky

Here's to the boys in the back with the beers up high

Be By You

Kinda like an old jon boat on some large mouth water
+
Kinda like that breeze that blows through a sweet home holler
+
I can't leave your lovin' alone
+
Where you are is where I belong
+
I hope I ain't comin' on too strong
+
Just wanna hold you close, baby
+
Kinda looks like you do too
+
I just wanna make love, wake up next to you
+
No makeup, baby, nothing beats that view
+
I guess what it comes down to
+
Is I just wanna be by you
+
Love it when you're slide to the middle
+
I'm stuck to you like glue, on your hip like a pistol
+
Wanna find me, you ain't gotta look far
+
There's nothing that can pull us apart
+
And I hope I ain't comin' on too strong
+
Just wanna hold you close, baby
+
Kinda looks like you do too
+
I just wanna make love, wake up next to you
+
No makeup, baby, nothing beats that view
+
I guess what it comes down to
+
Is I just wanna be by you
+
At the day ends and why
+
If the sun or the moon hangin' up in the sky
+
I hope I ain't comin' on too strong
+
Just wanna hold you close, baby
+
Kinda looks like you do too

The Me Part of You

Son, someday you'll find yourself turnin' sixteen
+
You'll turn the key, keep 'em ten and two
+
'Til I fade from your rear view
+
You'll hit the two-lane straight away and crank your radio
+
Drop that hammer down to the floor
+
Just to see how fast she'll go
+
And you'll smile, thinkin' I don't know
+
But I know
+
All the chances you'll take
+
The wrong turns you'll make
+
The hearts, and the rules, and the bones you'll break
+
'Cause you got somethin' to prove
+
All the trouble you'll chase
+
All the hell you'll raise
+
Every single day, I pray that I'll get through
+
To the me part of you
+
You'll turn off that highway, down her county road
+
Feel heartbreak for the first time
+
'Cause that ain't your truck in her drive
+
You'll wanna grab that bottle off my bottom shelf
+
You'll turn it up 'til you think it helps
+
But, boy, don't do that to yourself
+
You'll cry, thinkin' I don't know
+
But I know
+
All the chances you'll take

Rich Man

One was in a three-piece suit
+
One was in overalls
+
Bellied up on a couple stools
+
And I was a barfly on the wall
+
Three-piece came straight from work
+
Said, "Man, ain't it a shame?
+
Stock market took a bath today"
+
And I was just tryna watch the game
+
I could see his patience wearing thin
+
'Bout the time I overheard
+
Old overalls bring us all back down to earth
+
He said, "Rich man
+
Well, I know you didn't ask, but I'll say this, man
+
All the money in the world, it don't mean shit, man
+
'Cause it can't go with ya when you die
+
Buy your time or hold your wife and kids' hands
+
And that's what makes you rich, man"
+
He said, "Boys, love 'em while you can
+
Ah, 'cause it all goes fast
+
Mine left ten years ago
+
And you ain't whole without a better half"
+
Man, it hit me like a ton of bricks
+
And all of a sudden, I had it all
+
Having a house full of love at home
+
Feels like I won the Powerball
+
Said, "Rich man
+
Well, I know you didn't ask, but I'll say this, man
+
All the money in the world, it don't mean shit, man
+
'Cause it can't go with ya when you die
+
Buy your time or hold your wife and kids' hands
+
That's what makes you rich, man
+
That's what makes you a rich man"
+
He said, "It ain't no secret, having money's nice
+
But making a living ain't what makes a life"
+
Rich man

Well, I know you didn't ask, but I'll say this, man

But making a living ain't what makes a life"
+
Rich man
+
Well, I know you didn't ask, but I'll say this, man
+
All the money in the world, it don't mean shit, man
+
'Cause it can't go with ya when you die
+
Buy your time or hold your wife and kids' hands
+
And that's what makes you rich, man
+
That's what makes you a rich man
+
That's what makes you rich, man

A Man Was Born

I thought it happened when
+
I took that first sip
+
Out of a tall boy
+
Thought, "Boy, ain't you tough?"
+
They couldn't tell me nothin'
+
When I got the keys to somethin'
+
That could take seventeen me where that drag strip was
+
But loose gravel don't love trucks
+
Thought I was all grown up
+
But
+
I found out fast that life'll put you back in your place
+
Ready or not, man, the real world's right in your face
+
When you're down upside, it's too late to hit them brakes
+
Damn near died, but a man was born that day
+
In that smoky college bar
+
I saw her on his arm
+
And that seeing red whiskey said
+
"Throw the first punch."
+
Next thing ya know, I woke up
+
Thought I could take anyone
+
But
+
I found out fast that life'll put you back in your place
+
Ready or not, man, the real world's right in your face
+
Found out real quick why sometimes you walk away
+
Swallow your pride, but a man was born that day
+
Yeah, we had it planned out
+
Names written down
+
And a room half-rolled in blue paint
+
Aw, but in the kitchen that day
+
I found out fast that life'll put you back in your place
+
Ready or not, man, the real world's right in your face
+
Tears welling up in her eyes, that'll make a heart break
+
No pink lines, but a man was born that day
+
