She learned how to talk
Then she learned how to walk
She's running with the kids
And yelling till she quits
She picks her dad flowers
And imagines superpowers
Got dirty all day
But he always let her play
She was his light
Another chance at life
When she was out at the playground
He would watch and forget now
That he ever had a problem
As a father he just solved them
Her eyes had innocence
And her face had confidence
She was the first to read
In her class
Teacher said she never seen so fast
In her spare time she wrote stories
She was a good girl he never worried
And he loved his wife
He thought maybe he could
Love this life
They met when they were 18
To her he devoted all his day dreams
Now they're both 45
With a child, a dog, and a beautiful life
Yeah they had their fights
But they would always set it right
When things came up
They thought of things before it
The relationship was stronger for it
He looked out back
At his lush green grass
Grabbed a can of beer
And he popped the tab
He didn't always want an office job
But it was better than being a jobless slob
He didn't want to live in the suburbs
But hell it didn't hurt
He laid down on his king mattress
And thought how he kicked his habits
How lucky he was now
And how everything had turned around
He was content with himself
And how his life was going
Depression still crept
But it wasn't showing
