Dear family, I wrote this song when I was a senior in high school, trying to figure out how to come out.
Dear mommy, dear daddy, I miss you so,
Dear brother, dear sister, I hope you know.
Dear friends, dear family, you helped me grow,
I'm writing this letter, to tell you so.
Dear mommy, dear daddy, I'm doing fine,
Dear brother, dear sister, I've learned to shine.
Dear friends, dear family, I'm feeling strong,
With all of you, I know where I belong.
Through the years, I've found my way,
With your love you gave me power to stay.
Every word and every hug you gave,
Helped me feel safe, helped me be brave.
Dear mommy, dear daddy, I've grown so tall,
Dear brother, dear sister, I've seen it all.
Dear friends, dear family, I've raised the bar,
I hope you are all proud of me so far.
Through the years, I've found my way,
With your love you gave me power to stay.
Every word and every hug you gave,
Helped me feel safe, helped me be brave.
Now I've got something I need to share,
A part of me, I want you to care.
It's taken some time, but now I see,
I hope you can love this part of me.
Dear mommy, dear daddy, I'm still your kid,
Dear brother, dear sister, here's what I did.
Dear friends, dear family, I'm here to say,
I love you all... and by the way, I'm gay!
