Zahna Lyrics

Zahna (born Susana Martinez, last name changed to Madsen by marriage) is a Mexican American rock vocalist based out of San Antonio, Texas. Zahna's solo career launched following her role as the final lead singer of the band Ilia (2014-2016).

Zahna emigrated from Mexico to America as a young child and grew up bilingual. She spent a year in Mexico as an exchange student when she was 11. Later, she studied Bible at Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas, where she graduated with a Bachelor's in Christian Ministry in 2014. She credits that era of her life with inspiring her to surrender her music career aspirations in order to focus on her spiritual journey.

During her final semester of college, Zahna was presented with an opportunity to audition for a vocalist position with the American Christian rock band ILIA. She was selected as what would be the final vocalist for the band, which began her professional career as a touring performer and Billboard charting songwriter.

Zahna married drummer and musician Patrick Madsen (formerly of Random Hero) in 2018. Patrick is also a musical collaborator, album co-writer, and drummer for Zahna's touring act.

Zahna started creating her own music as early as childhood. Her interest in the rock genre began in her preteen years, and her first musical project was Remedy For Mundane. She started the rock band with fellow friends and high school classmates. It was her first experience with songwriting.

In 2016 Zahna was diagnosed with Medullary Kidney Disease, resulting in organ failure and necessitating eventual kidney transplant. The health crisis and dissolution of ILIA catalyzed her decision to pursue a solo career. Those themes would be key to her first album, Red For War, which she wrote in this transitional time.

Zahna's debut album Red for War released with Rockfest Records on August 17, 2018. The album was well-received by critics. Andie Hardee of JesusFreakHideout called it "a very solid debut for Zahna that shows her wide-ranging talents and reminds us that rock's not dead."
