One time, I went out on a trip
I packed my bags I filled my ship
Had to leave my dogs by themselves
But they were fine; we said farewell
Now I'm back, and it's all wrong
My dogs don't seem to get along
The old ones can't seem to stop their fight
And the pup is holding on so tight
She just laughs and looks me in my eyes
I thought I did everything right
I thought I filled their bowls for days
I put the water in its place
I cannot help how these things change
I tried to walk them yesterday
We went our old, familiar way
But they just wouldn't walk the same
I don't know why good things must change
I shouldn't have left them all alone
I hear them bark in a lower tone
Again, I'm fighting through the phone
They can't make it on their own
(They can't make it on their own)
Now I'm leaving for another trip
I brought my dogs they filled my ship
That's a lie I don't know why I said that line
I do it all the time
No, I left them like I'll always do
I let them rot and made them blue
This time I won't bother to fill their bowl
I'll be too far to see it take its toll
But if I'm not there
They'll claw and tear
And fight and bite
And the pup won't mind
And when they bark
It'll start
To break my heart
They'll rip each other apart
