How can I think about the new year
Somehow we went back in time
I'm supposed to feel thankful
Even though we've crossed the line
Oh, how I wish I could say the war is over
But it has just begun
I'm tired of the darkness
Can we please bring out the sun
You may want a diamond ring
Or lots of things that Santa brings
So you can hang your Christmas lights
But all I want for Christmas is my rights
It helps to remember
That I am not alone
The books I read in high school
Are hitting too close to home
At least I've got the holidays to distract me
At least I've got time to prepare
I've got people that I trust
Who will actually care
You may want a diamond ring
Or lots of things that Santa brings
So you can hang your Christmas lights
But all I want for Christmas is my rights
So you can hang your Christmas lights
But all I want for Christmas is my rights
