25th of May, middle of the day
George Floyd was pinned to the ground
He called out for help, I still hear him say
"I can't breathe." but no relief was found
The police put a knee to the back of his neck
Right there on that Powderhorn street
All because old George, his skin, it was black
Poor old George never rose to his feet
Minneapolis cries over the death of George Floyd
And for the way that it all went down
A sweet gentle giant, who wasn't even defiant
Was murdered that day in Minneapolis town
Officer Chauvin, sworn to serve and protect
He's the one who killed poor mister Floyd
For eight long minutes and 46 seconds
Unauthorized techniques were employed
A counterfeit twenty doesn't seem enough money
To cost a 46 year old man his life
He had kids to care for, and he had a new love, a lovely
Fiancé who'd have been his wife
Minneapolis cries over the death of George Floyd
And for the way that it all went down
A sweet gentle giant, who wasn't even defiant
Was murdered that day in Minneapolis town
I still hear him say, help "I can't breathe"
And believe me, you can't just ignore
The way that George Floyd was killed by police
Cause he was black, he'll never breathe, no more
The whole world cries over the death of George Floyd
And for the way that it all went down
A sweet gentle giant, who wasn't even defiant
Was murdered that day in Minneapolis town
The 25th of May in Minneapolis town
