I woke up knowing that it's not late enough in the year
For the school to close for snow
So now I'll have to trudge through the rain to the bus
What will I do for tell-and-show
I dropped my scissors in the puddle and I've dropped my glue
They'll make us go to the playground if by then the sky is blue
It's time to take the back-to-school decorations out of the window
The room is starving for the Halloween stuff to arrive
Autumn is falling
Will they laugh at the pumpkin I've made
Out of the only color of construction paper I have?
It's not funny the pumpkin is green
They're all terribly mean, it reminds me of spring
Of spring, of spring, it reminds me of spring, of spring
Autumn is nothing like winter to me
If I wait long enough, will I see the snow?
Will I go to bed in laughter, will I wake up in sorrow
When I wake up tomorrow, will I see the snow?
I long for the day to touch the sidewalk, yellow-gray
The road between the school and me is too dangerous to cross
The superintendent is afraid we'd all perish in the frost
So I'll get out my watercolors and paint a winter view
And mom will cook the perfect lunch of crackers and stew
Autumn is nothing like winter to me
If I look hard enough, will I see the snow?
I might have gone to bed in sorrow, but now I wake up in laughter
And from here ever after I shall pray for snow
