Christmas Carols
From Fields Beyond Euphrates Lyrics
1. From fields beyond Euphrates
and Far Tigris, Princes quit
Their Lares, their Penates, and
To Palestina flit
To seek an Infant
Who is the King of ages,
Foretold by seers and sages,
Of whom, too, Balaam writ.
2. The heav'ns declare the glory of
The King of Jewry's birth:
A Star doth tell the story of
Emmanuel on eart.
Swift go the Magi,
In fair or froward weather,
O'er mountain, rock or heather,
O'er desert, frith and firth.
3. As last they kneel afor the Child
Whom Mary's arms enfold,
And silently adore the Child
Lain in a manger cold.
Then to the Infant:
These Easterlings gan offer
The treasure of their coffer
Frankincense, myrrh and gold.
