1. Hark! the Angel greets the Maiden,
"Christ is born, if thou believe,
Solace of the sorrow-laden,
Ransom of the sin of Eve."

2. Lowly in her lowly dwelling,
With a holy virgin fear,
To the glorious Angel telling
God's high grace, she bow'd her ear.

3. So the Spirit came upon her;
Moved as o'er the ancient deep;
