Drunk on a Plane is the third single from Dierks Bentley's 2014 album Riser.
The song is about a man who is left behind at the altar and takes a trip to Cancun by
himself after he is unable to refund the airplane tickets he had purchased for a honeymoon.
While on the airplane, the narrator becomes intoxicated and parties with the other passengers.
Bentley is a licensed pilot. He told Jam! Music:
"I actually fly a small single engine, I fly it back and forth to some concerts, it helps me get me
some more family time which is nice ... it's fun if you're up for that kind of thing. So anything
about planes I love. So it became this title Drunk on a Plane. Just being natural songwriters and
making up this story about this guy. 'Why is he drunk on a plane? Well, he got stood up at a wedding.
Oh my gosh.' It's just a really fun song."
Bentley told Country Standard Time, "It's a fun song, but when you really listen, there's also an
underlying lonesomeness, which is what makes it different than a lot of the other uptempo songs I've
put out."
