Evelyn
Evelyn walks her dog today
Just like yesterday, the day before, and the day before that
She always smiles, waves hello and moves along
But in her eyes I see that something's wrong
Works 9 to 5 then waits around from 5 to 9
Slowly moving down the channels and a bottle of red wine
The neighbors change but all the houses stay the same
Evelyn's still waiting on a call that never came
Wishing she could hit rewind
And leave tomorrow's same old shit behind
Evelyn, Evelyn
There's still time to catch a second wind
All you need is something to believe in
Her husband vanished when the kids were still young
She did as well as any mother coulda done
Still they both grew up, found jobs and moved away
Now she only sees their faces on photographs and holidays
Wishing they would stay for good
Wishing they'd still need her like she thought they always would
Evelyn, Evelyn
There's still time to catch a second wind
All you need is something to believe in
Evelyn
Evelyn walks her dog today
Just like yesterday, the day before, and the day before that
But Evelyn, oh Evelyn
There's still time to change the place you're in
All you need is something to believe in
We all need something to believe in
As for me, I still believe
As for me, I still believe in Evelyn
