Life is tough
That cliche doesn't do enough
To show how rough
Some people's lives are
So hard
Every day
They live a struggle that you may
Not have a way
Of understanding
Feeling
And I know although you think you have
Experience to spare
What they need is not your intellect
But just someone to care
In a world of contradictions
You can't help the things you learn
And so it all must crash and burn
Growing old
It happens gradually we're told
But we've been sold
A load of nonsense
Falsehoods
Slow decay
A wrinkle or a touch of gray
And then one day
You can't deny it
Ancient
And I know although you think you have
Vitality to spare
What you need is not your innocence
But just someone to care
In a world of contradictions
You can't help the age you've earned
And so it all must crash and burn

Facing death
That moment when your final breath
Will leave your chest
And you'll expire
Retire
What is next
The question always has perplexed
And even vexed
Those who have asked it
Mystic
And I know although you think you need
An answer or a prayer
What you need is not a deity
But just someone to care
In a world of contradictions
Can't escape the final turn
And so we all must crash and burn
