Eh I By - Confederation Lyrics

In 1948, the choice was clear,
Newfoundland's future, a decision near,
A land of meadowed beauty, proud and grand,
Would it join the nation, or take a stand?
Debate and discussion filled the air,
As people pondered with hearts laid bare,
To join with Canada, a union new,
Or stand alone, as they always knew.

Confederation, the choice was made,
Newfoundland and Labrador, history laid,
From Big Land to mainland, hand in hand,
The Rock and Canada, a united land.

With Joey Smallwood leading the call,
For a brighter future, for one and all,
The ballots cast, the voices heard,
The will of the people's spoken word.
A second vote in June that year,
The path to confederation, clear,
With fifty-two percent to guide the way,
Newfoundland's destiny, a new day.

Confederation, the choice was made,
Newfoundland and Labrador, history laid,
From Big Land to mainland, hand in hand,
The Rock and Canada, a united land.

On March 31st, in '49,
The stars aligned, a moment fine,
With flags unfurled and spirits high,
Newfoundland joined, in a new tie.
From St. John's harbor to Labrador's shore,
A bond was formed, forevermore,
In the fabric of a nation strong,
Newfoundland's place where it belonged.

Confederation, the choice was made,
Newfoundland and Labrador, history laid,
From Big Land to mainland, hand in hand,
The Rock and Canada, a united land.

Through trials faced and storms endured,
A new chapter for all secured,
With Canada's promise, strong and true,
A future bright, horizons new.
The people's will, a sovereign voice,
In Confederation, they made their choice,
A proud province in the nation's heart,
Newfoundland and Labrador, a vital part.

Confederation, the choice was made,
Newfoundland and Labrador, history laid,
From Big Land to mainland, hand in hand,
The Rock and Canada, a united land.
