The restaurant closed down today
How am I gonna get my pay
I got hungry kids at home to feed
And we don't live beyond our needs
Governor said, "Close up shop!"
But I can't wait for the other shoe to drop
I'm in trouble, this ain't good
I gotta make ends meet, is that understood?
I was a barkeep every night
And waited tables during daylight
That pub was my money tree
It got chopped down on day 3
Of the National Emergency!
Lots of folks out there like me
Schools closed down
Wall Street burned to the ground
And milk and bread ain't free
What the hell am I gonna do?
If I get sick, my kids will too
But I can't just sit inside
And simply ride out the ride
Will I be forced to loot
Or myself prostitute?
I won't go without a fight
Or quietly into the night
The clock tocks and it ticks
This sure ain't some quick fix
It's bad, getting worse really
There's no near end that I see
To the National Emergency!
Lots of folks out there like me
Schools closed down
Wall Street burned to the ground
And rent and bills ain't free
We're walking on uncharted ground
As they quarantine town
Big box stores were last to close
The world reaps what it sows
Last count was a billion gone
But that will change by dawn
Will they ever find a vaccine
For this COVID-19?
We're down to our last can of soup
And handful of Fruit Loops
Maybe we pack up and flee?
Could that there be the key
To the National Emergency?
Lots of folks out there like me
Schools closed down
Wall Street burned to the ground
We're now a hunt and gather society
