And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
He was something special, she saw it from the beginning
A Romeo romance quickened her heart until she's spinning
Slowly, but surely she's catching him on his fibbing
Going out late and coming home, drunk and licking on shady women
Shady driven, scaring her on the daily
Her face loses expression, but clearly it's saying save me
He ties her to the bed when she's naughty, like she's in slavery
Tell me, how can you be a afraid of the man you were craving?
Neighbors seem worried. They asking often, what's the commotion?
Cuts up on her face seem deeper than any ocean
She's in need of a miracle. She's lost in all the violence
But still she keep low key, to herself and silent
What once was lust is now a gust, a pain, a village of sarrow
She's living in today, but she's dreaming about tomorrow
She's been passed around like she's been put up to borrow
But sit tight and listen because what's worse is next to follow
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
She's always making up excuses for the bruises she been getting
Everyday 'cause he's abusive especially when he's sipping
Afraid of what he'd do if she told him to stop
So she take all his abuses, never going to cops
A week later, on the news, her place is crawling with SWAT
They're responding to a call. They're saying possible shots
Well, long story short.. She was already popped
And died upon arrival at the hospital docks
Not finding a pulse, they deliver the news
Mom's crying, she's in shock and she's feeling confused
Like, why was she with him and why did he shoot?
And why she didn't listen when given the proof?
Like, he just got out of prison for his women abuse
And possession of the weapon he admittedly used
Then said he's just protective. He's a really good dude
And now she's dead. You get the message? This could've been you
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
Now the mom's at the hospital, talking to the constable
Tryna make sense of things, feeling aweful. She uncomfortable
All these questions about the ex and how he vexed and
Beated up her daughter 'cause she texting
She could never go out 'cause he would flip
Take a sip, then would rip her arm, leaving her bruised up
Spit in her face on the daily and maybe
She'd realize that's not how you treat a lady
But she won't 'cause she doesn't understand that her man will never change
He'll forever keep her chained up
Whether it's in the brain or the physical
This shit happens evryday. It's so difficult
So the moral of the story is it ain't worth it
So forfeit if abused in relationships
Cause sometimes it could end up as a crime scene
Now you're mom's crying cause you just left her to grieve
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
And I don't wanna say it's your fault
But it's the path you chose to walk
Shouldn't have kept close to the dark
To anybody listening, that's food for thought
