Gary Harju - The Ballad of San Angelo Lyrics

Ain't it funny how some things are forgotten
Right after they slip out of view
While others will be there forever
The moment they happen to you

Her black hair was shining like satin
Her smile like the hot Texas sun
And it didn't take long that San Angelo night
To know that she was the one in

San Angelo San Angelo
She sits in my brain like a sad old refrain
San Angelo

That spring heated up into summer
And I finally met her mama and pa
Nothin' meant more than family to her
And I guess they didn't like what they saw

She said they had lived there forever
Knew everybody in town
And I was just here in the air force
Who knows how long I'd be around in

San Angelo San Angelo
Though it's been years I can still feel the tears
In San Angelo

I try not to think of that heartbreak
But last night on the 6 o'clock news
A local mom had been killed by a car
While running on Rice Avenue

And to me she didn't even look older
In that photo of her family
A daughter who looked like her husband
And a son who looked exactly like me

San Angelo San Angelo
She burns in my brain til I cant stand the pain
From San Angelo

San Angelo San Angelo
Though yesterday's gone love goes on and on
In San Angelo
