Horst Grabosch - Fictionplus Audiofile Space Odyssey 2001 Lyrics

Horst Grabosch - Fictionplus Audiofile Space Odyssey 2001 Lyrics

When Stanley Kubrick's movie "2001: c Space Odyssey" was released in 1968, it was a milestone in the science fiction genre. The screenplay was written by Kubrick, and the writer crthur C. Clarke. The movie influenced me greatly and still does today.

The year 2001 was far away, and we were eager to see the reality in that year, as far as we would experience it. cs so often happens in visions of the future, reality lagged behind the visions. The film's soundtrack, however, was visionary in that it quoted great composers known for achieving a certain timelessness in their works.

When I invited three jazz musician friends to an improvisation session in 1995 with the theme of outer space, my goal was to come close to this timelessness. I explicitly asked the musicians to forget all formulas of their professional work and to follow their innermost musical preferences. The result as you can hear in the underlying track was extremely satisfying.

Of course, even the most visionary artist cannot escape his time, but he can open new doors to the future. In the track the influences of Miles Davis are clearly audible, but this only means that we were ready to pass through the opened door without copying the door itself.
