I wanted to play some jazz
But I couldn't find the time
It was a fine, flowing fixture that could be modified
And for that one reason I began getting eaten alive
And it was not unlike all the roses on your thigh
And now I'm looking at pictures hung on the wall
And there's one of a woman, naked in the fall
And it makes me laugh, the absurdity of it all is relaxing
And then one more second erases it all
And then I'm thrown back into a wonderous fall
Of peppermints, impermanence, and all of my faults
I wanted to fall in love
But I couldn't find the time
I wanted to write it down
But the truth never rhymes
I was a starry-eyed lover and the world was mine
And that thought stayed with me 'til I turned twenty-five
And then I packed it in a bag and shoved it to the back of the line
And now I'm back to pictures hung on the wall
And there's one of a woman, curled in a ball
And it makes me laugh as I recall her taxes
And then one more second erases it all
And then I'm thrown back into a wonderous fall
Of peppermints, impermanence, and all of my faults
And all of my fears
As they're standing right here
