Joe Nolan - Riverbends Lyrics
Official

I bet you've never seen the sun going down
Under the valleys and hills of this town
The way my woman lays down beside me
Every night we dream and wake up shining with it
Nothing goes by her
Free as her will
Nobody knows it's over until
She just leans upon the windowsill
Stares through my soul so cold and still

Ruthie came over last night to my house
We screamed and we cried and we kissed on the mouth
Just like old days where the summer would never end
And we'd follow the way that river did bend

Picking roses out of her teeth
Fallen petals on naked sheets
There's something so sweet in her memory
Or the warmth of her body
I go though waves of heaviness
No I cannot explain this
Poetry in a simple kiss
The everlasting longing-ness

Sometimes I feel like I'm going insane
Maybe I'm just willing to fall in the rain
I go out there and I hear her name
Echo in the chambers of my brain

Well Ruthie came over and knocked on my door
The thunder did rattle and the rain it did pour
And I grabbed her closer than ever before
And we followed the way that river did roar

I lost myself in there for a while
Living in the city of denial
Caught up on things that I could not change
Strung out and high on everything
Maybe I drink to free up my mind
The overwhelming emotional kind
Of heart that feels too much inside
Wounded and lost like an orphan child

The greatest kind of love to ever exist
Oh I wanna believe in this
Kind of love that just wants to give
And unconditionally live
It's so beautiful
It could make one cry
The universe and stars fell right from her eyes
Those tears of joy and tears of pain
Tears like rivers made out of rain

Well I almost lost it last night when I heard
The telephone ringing and the voice it was hers
She said it's been one long lost verse
Of whispers and heartache and lovers and words
But baby I love you more than this whole world
I miss you, I need you, I'm sorry, I hurt
For letting things go the way our hearts did bend
Well you are my river that will never end
You
You

I bet you've never seen the sun going down
Under the valleys and hills of this town
The way my woman would lay down beside me
Every night we would dream and wake up
Shining with it
