Josh McClinton - Hawai'i Stand Up (feat. Kamalani Paraan) Lyrics

Josh McClinton - Hawai'i Stand Up (feat. Kamalani Paraan) Lyrics

Imagine life before Captain Cook came with his strange ships
Back in the day when all Hawaiians spoke the language
No currency they charted the stars and sailed the seas
Till the Europeans came with disease and colonies
Took the Queen off the throne, kingdom down on its knees
People living in the streets while foreigners are holding keys
To condominiums and businesses in Waikiki
What happened in Hawaii? Nothing less than a tragedy
I'm getting stressed, sick of seeing people opressed
Everybody broke, losing hope, getting depressed
But I'm a man, until I am the last one left
And I'll protect my ohana till I take my last breath
If you think you seen violence, you seen nothing yet
And when you come to this island you best come correct
Cuz when it comes to kanaka they command respect
And if you come to Kaneohe then you might get checked
First they get ya to forget ya culture, then they replace it
Native Americans and Africans went through the same shit
Warriors, navigators, voyagers, kings, and chiefs
They live on cuz the bloodline's strong in you and me
Our history is more than what they told us we should be
And if my words ignite a war to bring us justice - let it be
On the east side, the mana is strong, it's so unique
And everything I say important, people listen when I speak
Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono
Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono
All I need is one breath, one love, once chance, one shot
Show the people what I'm made of, what I got
Maybe one day they'll leave us alone
If there's such thing as justice, we'll see another Queen on the throne
Western businessmen, they came in and they committed robbery
Took the 'aina for themselves and callin it they property
Now they tryna act like they don't understand sovereignty
Modern day war crimes not addressed properly
I have to make a stand, I can't sit and complain
'Cuz when I look into my Uncle's eyes I feel his pain
I'm sick of all the bickerin', tired of all the ignorance,
Instead of lift eachother up we pointin' out the differences
Illegal occupation make everybody frustrated
The mana here is strong, there is no way that they can break it
Fast forward to modern day, chronics, lying naked
Kidnappings and robberies, drugs, gentrification
Captain Cook came in makahiki, Hawaiians honored him
Came back and tried that shit again - and they slaughtered him
What happened here is classic it isn't really a mystery
Broke the chain of mele so they could rewrite the history
Took advantage cuz they didn't understand the politics
Use the culture for entertainment like it's a parlor trick
British show up and supplied the warriors with muskets
Get 'em to kill each other and make them their subjects
Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono
Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka Aina I Ka Pono
They tell us to vote and still we don't see a change
Problems gettin' deeper every year is the same
Everybody wanna find somebody to blame but
All this arguin' and playin' games is so lame
We just gotta stay patient
The answer's in the future generation
Raise them to be smart, we gotta learn from the past
We gotta teach 'em on our own, cuz they ain't gonna learn it in class
They gonna learn it from you, what you say and what you do
The example that you set and if you have respect for God
Education, culture, and intellect, teach 'em from our mistakes so they don't have no regrets
Cuz they ain't grown up yet but,
They won't stand a chance unless we get our demands and priorities straight
Only love, no hate
Aloha, every day
Oahu is the place I stay
Feel the mana as I see the sunrise on the bay
Memories of watching my kids play
Blues skies turn to gray
I think about my life and what I wanna say
This is not OK, corruption and greed tryna drive the locals away
On my knees I pray, every night and day, dear God
Please save Hawaii Nei, the future starts today
Hawaii stand up
