Driving cross country
Four days in the rain, wide eyed
Lightning shines the way, through the twisting countryside
Now the road takes a turn
Turns to gravel and mud
Skipping across the creek, up the hill, just before the flood
Down through the valley
Coasting right along
Lost in the clouds and the rhythm of a song
Around and around, twist the patterns of the day
Then smoke rings climb, and we begin to feel okay
Feelin' okay
With a burden of unknown possibility
Back from the dreams of youth
With a sense of civility
Still as a tree
Branches blowing in the windy afternoon
Look forward to seeing home, and hearing laughter soon
Digging down, even deeper than before
Settling into a space, some place beneath the floor
Around and around, turn the fingers of the way
Then smoke rings climb, and we begin to feel okay
Feelin' okay
With a burden of unknown possibility
Back from the dreams of youth
With a sense of civility
Still as a tree
Branches blowing in the windy afternoon
Look forward to seeing home, and hearing laughter soon
