Matt Walker - Starlight & Moonlight Lyrics

Matt Walker - Starlight & Moonlight Lyrics

There is a boy up in northwest Wyoming, I'm told that Johnny's his name
I got a letter from his mama this morning, she said this is my boy and your eyes are the same
My mind went back as I looked at the picture to a time when Johnny's mama was young
When she fell in love with a drifting musician, well she couldn't resist the sweet songs that he sung

He sang songs of the starlight and love in his heart and the dreams that he held in his soul
And for fourteen long nights they burned the fire bright, but the brightest fires soonest grow cold
He sang songs of the moonlight, a beautiful tune 'bout this girl who was pretty as May
But he also sang of the call of the road, and she knew he would leave her one day

She could see the tender sweet love in his eyes but she also saw a love for the highway
So after two weeks passed she wasn't surprised when he said girl this kills me but I must be on my way
In this picture she sent me she's pretty as ever, and Johnny, he does have my eyes
She said he has a knack for playing the guitar, and he tends to wander now ain't that a surprise
Now there's somethin' in my eyes, I can't see the picture, I don't know if it's sorrow or joy
I fold up the letter and call up to wish her all of the best for herself and the boy

I sang songs of the starlight and love in my heart and the dreams that I held in my soul
And for fourteen long minutes we recalled those burning nights but a fire won't burn bright on the phone
I sang songs of the moonlight, a beautiful tune 'bout this girl that was pretty as May
But I also sang of the call of the road and I knew she would hang up that way

There lies my heart, up in northwest Wyoming, with the girl with the boy with my eyes
The starlight and the moonlight was never enough...
