I know that you're now two years old
I pray the memories of younger you won't grow cold
You're so excited on this day it's your birthday
You're baby shapes have gone you're tiny form has gone away
Is this just the way it is?
The fading nature of that newborn baby bliss
We tried so hard not to miss
And how can I move on?
I simply count the number of the years
Of happiness you've brought us all
Another year
So many toys
A little fear
A lot of joy
And many more
My two year old
A smile is creeping 'cross my face
To hear you say such words a sentence strung a season changed
The way you hold yourself upright
Those cheeky looks you give a future starting to take flight
Right before my very eyes
I can hear your sweet voice saying I love you
Echoing inside it makes me wanna cry!
You still curl up in a ball in my arms
But I know it won't last forever
There's an aching in my heart!
Another year
Some different toys
A little fear
A lot of joy
Here's to many more
My two year old
I'm holding on!
My two year old
