Scavengers seek out remains
Of a shattered heart who let go of the reins
Just muscle and bone, slinking about
No direction or home, just crippling doubt
Will I ever find her again
In the eyes of another contender
For my heart, I want only her
Yet I know that's not how this
Storybook ends...
Trumpets announce the arrival of spring
Yet the sirens ring out a sobering warning
"Don't get attached. Don't get attached."
'The poppies are poisoning all of your reasoning
She never stays like you need her to stay
The adventure it calls and the roads how they wind
But you're not the thing she's been longing to find
Friendly lips disperse words of encouragement
"You'll get along, don't get discouraged.
'Plenty of fish and other such things,
But oh how I wish that the current would bring back
The wonder we had discovered,
The greatness we found in each other
Invisible boundaries and miles of highway
But oh how I wish she'd come back around my way
