Pete Wurthy - Sunrise on South Tryon Lyrics
Official

So all this excitement, almost, almost happened two years ago
You might remember Charlotte was supposed to
Host the All-Star Game back in 2017
But because of fall out from the controversial House Bill 2
The NBA chose a different city
And in the past two years Charlotte has seen some
Big changes and big growth
To my Charlotteans here let me make my plea
If you're not from 'the Cack' let me catch you up please
The Presbyterian where I first took my breath
To my mom and dad's where I took my first step
At the age of two, it wasn't all pleasure
A separation later now we movin' out to Denver
Where I made some best friends, and I can't make pretend
Living with my grandparents was a God send for our family
But the queen always had our number
Almost there every weekend during the summer
At a glance, entranced, with the city life
But the suburb was my comfort, man it felt so right
Though graduation came and went a fresh start
To UNC Charlotte I would go cuz it stole my heart
My love for my school growing hot like solder
Yo I'm a Niner forever, shouts to my Alma Mater
When Cole said it I knew he meant it sincerely
Gotsta love yours, QC I love you dearly
Luda said the grass was greener on the other side
In retrospect the cack is where I hold my pride
Been here since day one but still planting roots
Other towns I love you but you gotsta get the boot
Chartown hit me, nuff respect due
When I reminisce over why I chose you
Put your hands up if you know the Queen is the jam
Put your hands up if you love the land where you stand
Put your hands up if you feel like you can give a damn
Where you lay your head is the best known to man
Put your hands up if you know the Queen is the jam
Put your hands up if you love the land where you stand
Put your hands up if you feel like you can give a damn
Where you lay your head is the best known to man
My college days were some wild times to witness
Made many connections, learned about my limits
Unexpectedly, I claimed a prize so nice
Who knew my poetry would lead me to find my wife
Hand to hand we spent years in U. City
A few years in my bride moving in with me
Now we traveling down to Elizabeth
Living in the heart of my city? hell yes
The growing pains here have been a trial
Apartments going up too fast in style
An HB2 bill made the town look crook
The NBA shifts the All Star, bad look
But amidst the chaos I'll proudly rock my Hornets hat
Everyone's on our coat tails and I'm okay with that
The family's together so I know that I am home
To this great city plant my feet down like stone
When Cole said it I knew he meant it sincerely
Gotsta love yours, QC I love you dearly
Luda said the grass was greener on the other side
In retrospect the cack is where I hold my pride
Been here since day one but still planting roots
Other towns I love you but you gotsta get the boot

Put your hands up if you know the Queen is the jam
