In the woods
At the foot of a great hill
Lived a young boy
Solemn and alone
The boy didn't know
Where he where he was
How he got there
Or even who he was
Day in and day out he lived
And enjoyed it
Until one day
The boy stumbled upon a large wooden fence
Carved to an immaculate point
With each carefully selected log
"How strange!" the boy told himself
Struck by his discovery
"What could be on the other side?" He thought
And so, with all his strength
He climbed on his tippy toes
Just barely pushing his eyes
Through the cavity between the spears
Before him a vast desert
Where the sun burned hot
And the land on fire
Scattered about were small huts
And men in navy blue uniforms
Watching the fire with an astute glory
Motionless
One hundred
Just then
A hand on his shoulder
The man held tight
Not painful
But firm enough
To put fear into the thought of running
"We've got another one!" The man said
Waving his navy blue hat
Dragging the boy by the collar
As more men came by
And held the boy d
Cried for mercy
But mercy
Like the boy himself
Was unknown
To the Firefolk
Unknowable
Forgotten
The gates stood before him
Bold, convincing letters spell
Liberty
Grandiose spires of oak and iron
Slowly unfurling itself
In a symphony of creaks and whistles
The crack of light opened wider and wider
The doors, the gates of light have opened
Hotter than the very sun that birthed them
Then a voice
Piercing through the light
Confident and sincere
Loud
But soft
Gentle
But furious
He spoke
"We are here to set you free
Free from the dangers of the forest
Free from the struggles of the hunt
Free from the poison and venom
Of the creatures that dwell on the other side
Embrace your salvation
We are your everlasting refuge and sustainer
Now step into the fire"
