I wish I was a pilot
With my very own aeroplane
So I could take you away and fly you 'round the world
In more or less than 80 days
Or one of us could be a captain
On a Man of War at sea
We could fall in with a merry band and sing 'A Pirate's Life for Me'
We'd weigh anchor in Barbados and drink to relief
No more nights staring at the ceiling
No more melancholy dreams
I wish I was an engineer conducting railway trains
I could ride along the B&O and get myself away
Though I'd love to be a spaceman
So I could walk across the sun
Bottle up a cloud of stardust and we could split it between us
I'd lasso up the moon for you and drag it back down
So there'd be something worth while in Maryland
So we wouldn't have to get the hell out of this town
I wish you were the North Star so I could navigate by your light
And that way we could carry on long after our bedtimes
I'd settle for an Uber driver as long as you had the app
I'd drive a horse drawn cart for you if you wanted to go back
Still
I'd rather be a pilot
With a great big private jet
So I could disappear in Bermuda with the pirates I had met
No one in the world would have to know where we are
You bring your poems
I'll bring my guitar
I wanna be a pilot
