Version One - Pan(golin)demic Lyrics

Wake up, in a state of emergency
It's too late, see the hate has emerged
We are so far gone, down this road we traveled
Now the path's unraveled as we hopelessly drown
In a sea of sorrow, living for tomorrow
Sounds like a long defeat
As we're sinking to the bottom, overthinking every problem
While we're bound beneath, the light is out of reach
It's so hard to breathe but we grit our teeth
Why is our calm so hard to keep
We have never felt this way before
A broken spirit, a shattered core
A fractured faith, an identity crisis
That's the uncertainty that life is
In a moment's notice, when you're not focused
Go from top of the world to the depths below us
Did we lose our way or did we lose ourselves?
Are we to blame or is someone else?
Were there signs to see that we just ignored?
The kind of keys we could not afford
To overlook or pass by
That's why we are where we are this time
With no plan of attack, 'cause there's no turning back
Yet we can't move forward 'cause we're stuck in the past
How do we fight back? this can't be real
You really want to know just how we feel?
We're not okay, these days we're a combo
Of crazy, cold, curt, and far from composed
And we don't know what the future holds
All the worries sit deep in our souls
Even if we trust we will rise above
Right now, we're seeing loved ones turn to dust

Lies
They say turn off the news
They're feeding you fear to make you feel scared
Lies
They can't cover the facts of the matter
The truth is we're underprepared
Lies
They say my people ate bats
And that is why so many lives are now lost
Lies
Pandemic panic is real
And it will take more than just prayers and thoughts

We are at war with a virus, a harbinger of death
This isn't a hoax, this isn't a joke, COVID-19 is a threat
The enemy is invisible, which is why it's so critical
To distance yourself from others who could be infected or you could be next
And don't call it "Chinese," asking me "Why? Isn't that where it originated"
"It's only a name, who cares?" the Asian-Americans feeling so violated
They're facing discrimination and hate crimes, they're fearing for their lives
No one is safe, not even the children, everyone must stay inside
Or you might get punched in the face, stabbed in the streets, prey on the weak
"Stop being sensitive, man" When you're not at risk, it's easy to speak
Meanwhile the hospitals are overcrowded, they are in need of supplies
Not enough ventilators, so now they will decide who gets to live or die
Running out of time and PPE, safety should be the priority
I think it's safe to say the United States has handled this deplorably
A few months in and test kits still are not widely available for use
What you do now is all up to you, because that's your right to choose

Lies
They say turn off the news
They're feeding you fear to make you feel scared
Lies
They can't cover the facts of the matter
The truth is we're underprepared
Lies
They say my people ate bats
And that is why so many lives are now lost
Lies
Pandemic panic is real
And it will take more than just prayers and thoughts
