Virtigo - Shy Lyrics

Virtigo - Shy Lyrics

Amos tread in his black steel toe winter boots and his big beige coat, wandering through the lamplit gardens
He came to a walkway, which he followed, under bridges and through the woods he went
He arrived at a bench in a small clearing near the river, on the bench before him lay a girl
She had red curly hair and pale white skin
Amos sat on the bench and gazed into the sky
Stars, like eyes, the eyes stared back at him, they knew him, they see him every night
Nice night out tonight, int' it, Amos said, but the girl did not respond
I'm Amos, nice to meet you, still no response
She must be a little shy, Amos thought
I work at that shop on Line Street, the butcher, part time. I've seen you around

Amos

Amos' eyes widened, "did she say that?" he thought to himself
The voice was far too ethereal and deep to come from a girl like her, but then again
People are different sometimes
"Yes" he exclaimed, Yes that's me, so you DO remember
Amos felt his heart beating, and his palms were sweating through the frigid cold
He'd never felt this before, was this... love
Amos glanced at the girl, "you're very beautiful" he said, no response came from the girl
Shy, understandable, Amos was quite tall, and large
And... more on the dull side of thought
I'm sorry, you must be shy... i get shy every now and then

Amos

There it was again' he thought
"Yes, yes that is my name", he said
He sat and thought to himself
Maybe his presence was making her feel uncomfortable, maybe it's time to leave
"I'm sorry, I should get going now" he said, still gazing up at the stars, they seemed brighter than before
Less like pinpricks, more like... tears, rips in the sky
And the eyes, the eyes stared back at him
Amos got up and started walking away, he turned to glance at the girl one last time
And wandered back to the walkway he was on
Voices, ethereal sounds, permeated his mind as he gazed back up at the stars
Craters, there were craters in the sky, their pupils looking down at him, disapproving, and mocking
They knew him, they saw him every night
He stopped, stood, and looked upwards and saw something... odd, but he brushed it off and kept moving
Amos found his way back into his neighbourhood
And unlocked the door to his modest residence above the butcher shop
He undressed himself and sat down by the fire
He could not for the life of him take his mind off of the pretty red-haired girl he saw
"She... she said my name"
He smiled and reclined, drifting off to sleep

He awoke the next morning, he put on his winter wear and headed out the door
Taking the same route he went last night, he went to see the pretty red-haired girl on the bench
But when he got there, she was no longer there
Puzzled as to where she could be, Amos decided that she might be there if he came back later
Amos found his way back to the butcher shop, he put his coat away and his apron on
7:30AM, still half an hour until they had to open
He grabbed the morning's newspaper from the counter and sat down at a table
Much to his surprise, there on the front page was that pretty red-haired girl
Though, her hair... wasn't red, it was blonde, and her skin wasn't white, it was tan
Amos read the headline, Local Woman Found Dead On Park Bench, Amos continued to read

Police say she had been hit over the head and bled profusely into her hair
But ultimately froze to death on the bench, there were no signs of a struggle, only a clean hit with a blunt object
Sources say she died at approximately midnight last night
Police have become wary, seeing as this is the latest death in a string of bludgeonings across the area

Amos sat and gazed at the image of the girl
Then, he remembered something

Last night, as he gazed upwards he realized... there was an extra star in the sky
