This is John Trautman, and you're listening to A Humanist's Story with Vold Book
The song now in the background is called Plumes of Eternity
I've written all of my songs to date in Austin, Texas
However, I've recently relocated to the central coast of California
And hope to stay for the duration
I love the Central Coast, a mix of the north with some of the south
I look forward to planting my vine roots here
This next song is another light in the dark, and it is called A Candle at Dusk
It's a short little number performed on the acoustic guitar
And the first song on the new Vold Book album, Starflight: Maya Bay
Due to be released on December 17, 2023
A Candle at Dusk reminds me of opening the windows wide
To allow the ocean breeze to billow with the drapes and replenish the home
Perhaps the sun is going down, it's Friday night
And you've decided to embark on a starflight, to Maya Bay
I mentioned that Vold Book will be shifting mediums in the near future
Music will stay a central role in Vold Book, but so will books!
I've recently completed a novel that I began to write in 2018
I'm excited to get this work out into the world
The first novel by Vold Book is a science fiction / fantasy
Influenced by Hermann Hesse, the philosopher-novelist
And Michael Ende, among others
Hesse managed to pin-down a mysterious tone in his work that influences me greatly
His somewhat austere, inquisitive authenticity is refreshing
And resonates with my own Germanic heritage
The Neverending Story by Michael Ende has been with me since childhood
And I believe that I can even hear traces of it in Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Which I referred to earlier
Mine is a story that examine the nature of love, reality, and beyond
This is A Candle at Dusk, the lone soul before the sea
Water is a threat to flame, and candles are needed
More than ever in this dark world of ours
Who among you will venture out to sea?
Take me with you, when you go
