The day has come upon us all at once
You and I have seen it all as we keep sifting through the dust
And though I'd trust you in the darkest times this world will conjure up
It's in the light that I can't see an us
Day by day we find a way to get through the routine
Flipping through emotions like a new Time Magazine
You'd think the headline news would scream disaster unforeseen
But its only ordinary you and me
Somewhere in an alternate reality we'd find
A crisis strong enough to take contention off the mind
A motivating force to leave our rugged past behind
But we're all fine, we're just out of time
If it all would fade away
We'd wave goodbye our day to day
And for survival we would keep each other close
And with no more news
There'd be no more sides to choose
We could only focus on what matters most
We'd have no time to fight about religion, race or class
Living every moment like the day might be our last
Either way the end has come and something must collapse
The future of humanity
Or the future of you and me
It's been about a year since the election
And you can't shut up about how they're still failing to protect us
From deceptive corporations, stunting radical progression
As you post it on a phone you bought from one
You say I really shouldn't wear that shirt
When I bought that brand you made me think impending doom was certain
Yet you say these superficial things should never be a burden
Why'd you have to go and make it hurt then?
Somewhere in an alternate reality we'd find
A crisis strong enough to take contention off the mind
A motivating force to leave our rugged past behind
But we're all fine, we're just out of time
If it all would fade away
We'd wave goodbye our day to day
And for survival we would keep each other close
And with no more news
There'd be no more sides to choose
We could only focus on what matters most
We'd have no time to fight about religion, race or class
Living every moment like the day might be our last
Either way the end has come and something must collapse
The future of humanity
Or the future of you and me
I'd love you to the stars and back
If they all were fading to a shade of black
If atom bombs would split the world in half
Our love would never fall between the cracks
If the government dissolved then you'd have nothing to disagree with
If we scavenged for our food I bet you wouldn't have gone vegan
Entitlement to idealistic tendencies would crumble into instinct and dependency on trust
'Cause in the end it's only about us
If it all would fade away
I'd have nothing more to say
And maybe I would put your cares above my own
And with no more news
There's just one side to choose
As we go you know I'd only hold you close
You wouldn't have to change your mind, I wouldn't even ask
I'd look into your eyes like every glance might be the last
Call me an apocalyptic optimist but either way the end has come and something must collapse
The future of humanity
All the problems with society
And every single thing that we believe
Or the future of you and me
