Well, I remember when we were kids, riding bikes up and down the street
A couple dozen places up and down the block where we could stop, shop, play and eat
But now the mom and pops that we used to shop have fallen on hard times
Cause we're staying at home and we're staring at our phones and we're ordering our lives online
I guess, something went astray somewhere along the way
How do we get back to yesterday
I remember a kid we went to school with, he graduated at the top of his class
He invested in a company and made a lot of money, at least until the stock market crashed
Well, he held out till the end but the bills kept coming in, now he's living out on the street
Well, he's holding up a sign and he's standing in a line for a place to stay, it's something to eat
I guess, something went astray somewhere along the way
He said, how do I get back to my yesterday
When the cow jumped over the moon and the dish ran away with the spoon
We say, things are gonna get better if we just let it and leave our worries on the shelf
These are the stories we tell ourselves to make us feel better
They make us feel better
Well, I remember the day that the world went crazy and they shut the whole f*cking thing down
The talking heads on the news were shouting out a warning about a new designer bug goin' round
And so they shut down the churches and they shut down the schools and we couldn't go to work for a year
And with our lives on the line it was all a waste of time cuz there's no vaccination for fear
I guess, something went astray somewhere along the way
How do we get back our yesterday
When the cow jumped over the moon and the dish ran away with the spoon
We say, things are gonna get better if we just let it and leave our worries on the shelf
These are the stories we tell ourselves
To make us feel better
They make us feel better about ourselves
They make us feel better
They make us feel better about ourselves
Something went astray, Something went astray, Something went astray
And the cow jumped over the moon and the dish ran away with the spoon
We said, things are gonna get better if we just let it and leave our worries on the shelf
Those are the stories we told ourselves
To make us feel better
How do we get back our yesterday, when things were better?
