Archie Noble - The Second Floor Lyrics

Archie Noble - The Second Floor Lyrics

Well the time is close to midnight
But still noise is coming from the second floor
You're standing in the corner
And wondering what you came here for
Though you had no real expectations
Someone deserves to give an explanation
With your eye kept wide and your head kept cold
Lost in your empty situation

You overhear somebody speaking loudly
To the centre of the room
Telling stories of such escapades
So far-fetched that they just might be true
He recites with good clarity and diction
From popular poetry and fiction
With a thorn in his side with the flesh exposed
So those around must suffer his affliction

Standing in the doorway
And waiting for the opportunity
Of slipping out unnoticed
You hope sometime this century
Oh she draws it out with all the disposition
Of a vampire feeding it's addictions
With her head held high and her mind so low
She clings to the last of her convictions

As another hour passes every minute
You think time is cruel
You catch the eye of someone just arriving
And you pity this poor fool
You've had your fill of false embraces
Now you're questioning your choice of time and places
You stand with your hand raised to let go
From the company of strange familiar faces

Now the time is after midnight
On the second floor there's nothing more to see
And I can't help but wondering
If there's not some other place to be
You've tried but there's nothing more to keep you
And you're tired no there's no one here to speak to
With your mind made up to take control
But watch out for those who would entreat you
