She's standing on the beach
Where nobody knows her name
She says tonight she'll skip the alumni b-ball game
She's stressed from her career
But she's never looking back
Yet she's still got a flip phone and a Joan Jett 8-track
She's hanging onto something
But tells the world she's not
She opens up her yearbook and
Claims that she forgot
You won't catch her red-handed having any fun
Invite her to the show but she'll say those days are done
Behind the scenes, we all know, she's not the only one
Planning her retirement when her life has just begun
What's it like to live alone
Without a roommate or a pet
She tells me that it hasn't really gotten to her yet
She writes inside her notes
Then she tucks them out of sight
Plans her spring vacation and discreetly boards her flight
Right away she makes a point to close the cabin windows
Asks the flight attendant for a couple extra pillows
She's exhausted
You won't catch her red-handed having any fun
Invite her to the show but she'll say those days are done
Behind the scenes, we all know, she's not the only one
Planning her retirement when her life has just begun
She stands out on the balcony of her vacation home
She screams to the Atlantic
She's feeling so alone
She wants to feel alive again
She wants a little fun
She wants to feel human
But she can't tell anyone
So she gave up on the image and now she's having fun
Her shoes are getting sandy while she's dancing in the sun
Now she's feeling human, asking why she'd ever run
Cuz she tried to find to success, now here journey's finally done
Finally done
Where is she going and why does she hide?
Finally done
All the dark emotions are burning deep inside
Finally done
Losing herself to a boring career
Finally done
She finally remembered what matters in the end
Finally done
