She Never Wanted it This Way
Her friends drive her f*ckin crazy
And the boss calls her baby
Fingers ripped to shreds from a shattered iphone screen
That drive is two hours long
With the engine light on
She gets her makeup done just before the light turns green
What ever happened to the endless Summer Days?
And (as if) right on cue here comes the rain
She never wanted it this way
All the things she's gotta say
All the songs that went unplayed
She Never wanted it this way
She played a wild guitar
And wrote poems to the stars
She captured speed and light in the simple things that she drew
She shuts her door against the people
Hangs her coat on the easel
Can't find her paints since the last time that she moved
Where are those colors that she always used to see?
And all the words that whispered through her dreams
She never wanted it this way
Feels the colors fade away
The palette dried and gone to gray
She never wanted it this way
Way back where she comes from the sun goes down in flames
And when she shuts her eyes she sees it all again
She brings the brush down to paint
