Trapped and drowning under wires
Shell holes filled with flesh
Beyond the aid of fellow soldiers
Moaning gasps, the last of breaths
Torso slashed by shrapnel
Paralyzed I fell
Underneath the mud and metal
Surrounded by remains
Black twisted limbs
Human forms burst and brutalized
Carcasses littering this blood soaked ground
Skeletal fingers reach for last requests
To be remembered, their final behest
A body digested by its own saliva
In the mouth of the earth
Innards spread throughout the marshlands
A domain fed by gore
Immersed in a nightmare of my own undoing
My sanity lost in the bog
Nostrils filled to the breadth by cancer
As the mire gives birth
Revealing new constructs, abhorrent cadavers
Undeath created, a soldier possessed
I see them rise, the bodies of the lost, the murdered, dismembered
Abandoned men, dreamless sleep in winter's frost, no one will be remembered
Once fallen in the battlefield, never seen again, cries for aid fall upon deaf ears
Blood clots my throat and eyes turn white
I drown in a pool of severed limbs
A slow descent, I feel them clawing at my skin
Fall into the dark of our lost cause
As toxins penetrate, flesh and sinew contract
Smoke and gas envelopes us all
Surrounded by remains
Black twisted limbs
