Well, I bet I was doing about a hundred and ten
As me and my caddy pulled around the bend
The car in front was doing thirty nine
And driving down the center of the yellow line
So I swerved to the right just to stay alive
Hit the ditch at a hundred and five
We flew a few hundred feet and slid a couple more
And knocked down a power pole with my side door
She flipped and she rolled and she burst into flame
And everybody knew just who was to blame
It was that little car doing thirty nine and driving down the center of the yellow line
Now the ambulance came around the corner doing ninety five
Trying to get there while I was still alive
But, that little car doing thirty nine
Had parked dead center of the yellow line
So the ambulance did about the same as me
They did a couple of spins and smacked a tree
But we all survived our little ride
And went to the car to see who was inside
But before we got there, it drove away
And I haven't seen it again not to this day
So a few years back I was playin' a live show on the radio and I got a call back from the driver of that little car, over the phone he said
Hey mister
If you're a listener, I've gotta bone to pick with you
I'll tell you in a verse cuz I'm a guitar player too
When y'all survived that little ride
And went to the car to see who was inside
It was a black and white mustang, the driver was me
This is officer Dan of the CHP
I'd been chasing you boys for a very long time
I told y'all that speeding is a crime
I finally nailed you boys, I got you this time!
She flipped and she rolled and she burst into flame
And everybody knew just who was to blame
It was Officer Dan, with his southern twang
Driving so slow in his black and white Mustang
Before we got there, he drove away
Now this race ain't over, not then, not today
