D.g-13 - Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics

D.g-13 - Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics

I think there's a few issues
That need to be addressed
Because there's a lot of shit
That I need to get up off my chest
Regarding the way that shit went south so fast
Instead of telling the whole story
My parts were skipped right past
So I'm here to shed some light
On the other half of things
I'm 'bout to let em know
Why this caged bird f*ckin' sings
So lemme start from the top
Of the list that has been written
On the inside of my eyelids
Cause I'm doin this shit while I'm sleeping
First of all, let's get it straight
I wasn't the one who was walkin away
Like a dead beat dad on your first birthday
I was more like a step-dad
Who got in the way
Of you and the way you live your life
And don't get me wrong, that's your god given right
But I can't steer that f*ckin ship, so why would I invest my life
Into something that I couldn't control
The hand was dealt and the dice were rolled
We talked until our throats were sore
And nothing more than that dead horse
That I beat to the f*ckin ground
Until I finally came around
And realized if the captain can't learn words
This ship was going down
You were much less of a captain
And much more of a child
Trust me when I say that the first half of this verse was mild
Compared to what I'm bout to do when I change the beat up next
Cause now you're jammin' with two dudes who you trashed like they were your ex.
All because you couldn't take advice from younger cats
Cause you'd been on the scene so long, ancient artifact
You're the first one every time to preach about respect
Yet you couldn't see the dire need for someone to step back
And take some time to figure out their life & mental state
So you wonder why, for a second time, I had to walk away.
I couldn't keep watching my words fall on to deafened ears
With promises of making it yet no real path was clear
You've never heard critiques before so now I understand
Why you wouldn't share reviews except for singing praise of fans
So now I blaze on my own trail and I'm doing pretty well
I'll invoice you for the royalties on my albums that you sell.

You know what? I'm mad and I'm bitter. But I'm a man
And I can tell you from my heart
That I put every ounce of me
Into this mess right from the start
And don't you pull that shit on me
Shit, I designed the album art
That you have printed on your tee's
And you know who designed the logo
Boy don't even get me started before I go loco
Now you got me speakin español
Yea this gringos on a roll
Don't get too political
You could isolate an audience
The irony is obvious to me because
You got the confidence of our commander in chief
Undeserved and unearned yet as bold and brash as trump
Still ridin' on the coat tails til you get another bump
To carry you til next Friday when you can just flash back
To a time when I was making moves while you smoked in the back
To enjoy the fruits of someone else's labor is a sin
So I hope you got a plan to gain some f*ckin salvation
Cause there's a special place in hell for people just like you and me
So I guess I'll see you there, why don't you just save me a seat?
And we can sort this whole thing out once we've turned old and grey
Cause I'm not about to sit around for one more f*cking day
And watch you ride the wave I made until you get your break
It's sad to see so many people buy into something so fake
You had no f*ckin' problem straight up lying to my face
Talkin bout the album money, I ain't never seen a trace
Buying followers on Instagram and flexing like it's fate
Preaching, "hard work pays off" yet you never wanna wait
And I'm not gonna lie, you were like a brother to me
So I'm sad to see this happen, but this is how it's gotta be
