Made it to Nashville on a Greyhound ride
New York City, had to leave you, I was sleeping outside
With my pack on my back and my guitar in hand
Ya know I had me a feeling only few understand
I wasn't thinking about tomorrow living day to day
But I was makin' my way
Well it took a couple months for me to save up some dough
I got a run down room along the Music Row
That old bar next seemed like the place to be
'Cause everybody there was always singing but me
Then ol' Jimmy Boppa gave me my chance to play
Yeah, I was makin' my way
I was makin' my way and I was pickin' my sound
Now I'm makin' my way takin' it all around
Call me what you want but never call me a fake
I'm only makin' my way
Well I made it back to Nashville with something to say
From the California Coast to the Chesapeake Bay
Yeah, I've been all around the States doing everything I can
And it got me couple songs now I got me a plan
Well I ain't going nowhere, believe I'm here to stay
Yeah I'm just makin' my way
I've been makin' my way and I've been pickin' my sound
Now I'm makin' my way takin' it all around
Call me what you want but never call me a fake
I'm only makin' my way
