When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide
And that one talent which is death to hide
Lodged with me useless though my soul is bent
To serve therewith my Maker and present
My true account lest He returning chide
"Does God exact day-labour light denied?"
I fondly ask But patience soon replies
"God does not need
Either man's work or his own gifts
Who best bear His mild yoke they serve Him best
His state is kingly thousands speed
And post o'er land and ocean without rest
They also serve who only stand and wait"
In silent hours when shadows fall
I feel the weight of all my fears and dreams
With every breath the questions call
The purpose in my soul it ever beams
In every heart a silent prayer
In every dream a spark of light
No matter where no matter how
We find our way through darkest night
They also serve who only stand and wait
In patience find the path to heaven's gate
With every step our souls elate
They also serve who only stand and wait
