I wasted fifty pages on mistakes
Tore up my thoughts in frustration
After all forgot what I set out to make
And so I made you nothing
Unperturbed you gathered up my tantrum shards
And showed me in them a proud reflection
Depths unknown to be feared
We sail out on black waters not our own
But I can always lose my grip
You'll catch my fingers
You are the ship that carries me home.
I threw away ideas time and time and time again
Refused to steer against the waves
Wore the ground so thin that it was tearing
And so I took you nowhere
With grace you took my hands and kept them steady
Fought the sails and read the guiding stars
Depths unknown to be feared
We sail out on black waters not our own
But I can always lose my grip
You'll catch my fingers
You are the ship that carries me home.
You drew me to my feet to measure up
And promise something
Held a candle to the treasures
So I'd find you something
But could I ever bring you something on my own?
Do I see our value without the mirror that you hold?
Depths unknown to be feared
We sail out on black waters not our own
But I can always lose my grip
You'll catch my fingers
You are the ship that carries me home.
In seeing treasure you make treasure grow
You are the sails that lift me home.
