Amen
by Frankenstein Cast

Teacher:
Frankenstein, we find your ideas to be shocking, dangerous and an affront to all that is moral and decent, shocking, it is madness,
folly, insanity!

Victor:
The dead have nothing to say to you

Convict:
I curse the day that I was born.
Into a world so black with hate
I'll gladly leave the life of scorn
And seek my peace before the light of heaven's gate
I have my sins like any man
But none more dark that yours
If it is I that you choose to damn
Innocent blood will stain you hands forevermore

Hangman:
For crimes against the people
The people of Ingolstadt hereby sentence you to be hung by the neck until dead
The 16th of September 1700 and (?)

People:
You kind has no place but the grave
Not even the soul who can be saved
Soon you will know eternal (?)
(x2)
No man will dare to (?)

Convict:
What is wrong and what is right?
Does man decide?
Who dares to act like God?

Victor:
Another soul, another light, another flame extinguished.
One moment here then gone
The heart is beating than its done
The difference barely distinguished
The ancient riddle: What is life?
What is his fleeting essence?
The greatest minds have sought the key
That could unlock this mystery and I alone posses it!
What I have found was thought impossible
And only spoken of in fear
If I can show them the impossible
Create a life that all must see!

People:
Justice will be done!

Victor:
The dawn that calls to me

Convict:
What wrong with fright?

Victor:
Crying destiny demands that vary fate of all mankind

People:
(?)

Convict:
It is time, who dares to act like God?

Victor:
And in the hand of my creator claiming now
Grant to make this nightmare end

Convict:
And if no man shall mourn for me.
I'll trust in you.
Amen

Hangman:
Who will tend to the remains!? I say, who claims this body?!

Victor:
I do.

Birth To My Creation
by Frankenstein Cast

Frankenstein:

Thrilling!
Awesome!
Spectacular!

Witness God in his heaven and play

Chilling!
Dazzling!
Sensational!

A most singular magnificent display!

An electrifying tapestry,
if it could only be controlled.
The sheer strength and the majesty...
Think of the power we could hold!

I want the world to see
Where my research has led.
Electricity's the key
To reanimate the dead!

I could rid the world of sickness
man would live in perfect health!
And only violence would cut short
this gift worth more than wealth

No consumption!
No cancer!
No lepers, cripples, gout.
In my hands I'll hold the answer
to what life is all about!

At Ingolstadt I'll have the means
to walk where few have trod!
I'll discover the secrets between
the alchemists and God!

(voice-over journal entries about the experiment run together)

Prometheus dared to steal fire from gods
to lift mankind from sorrow.
And just as the myth,
my mission is this:
To write a new tomorrow!

My endless days of study and toil
are finally near fruition.
The world will be forever changed
by history's physician(?)

The purest plasma!
Coursing freely,
Through artery and vein!
The finest tissue,
the perfect body,
Muscle, bone, and brain!

This storm will peak,
and the heavens part,
to fire my preparations.
The needed shock to start this heart
giving birth to my creation!

And now it's come,
the moment is right,
to awaken my creation!
I'll show the world,
this very night,
the way to man's salvation!

Dear Victor
by Frankenstein Cast

Elizabeth
Dear Victor, Sweet Victor.
I pray this finds you well.
Please now that we miss you
Much more than words can tell.
Are you consumed with study?
Your thoughts a world away
From all of those who love you
And hope for word each day.
I know your passion's fury,
The dream you must pursue!
I only ask for compromise
Please realize,
My dream begins with you!

Victor
Elizabeth it pains me to have to keep this secret from you!
I'm so ashamed that this is all my many months of work have come to!
How I long to feel your warm embrace,
And kill this failure's poison taste!

Elizabeth
Dear Victor, please answer
With words that reassure us!

Victor
I have no words to sooth her!

Elizabeth
My heart clings to mem'ries
Yet longs for something more!

Victor
I have no strength to find them now!

Elizabeth
Where is the man who held me?
Who made me feel his fire?
But does your silence prove it's true?
I've lost you too!
Your only true desire!

Victor
If I could solve this mess I'd be in your loving arms forever!

Elizabeth
Dear Victor

Victor
Here I am, alone and lost a foolish failure forever!
Have gone where no man should dare go?

Elizabeth
What are you keeping from me?

Victor
Missing ev'ry dream I seek just beyond my reach!
What is missing, what is wrong?

Elizabeth
Dear Victor
Without you
Our house is not a home
Dear Victor
Return to us
I miss you so
I need you so.

Victor
You must never know!

Creature
Frankenstein!

Victor
Is it possible that retched beast is capable of learning?
Have I left my greatest work and all my dreams behind me burning?
I've done what I must!
Back to ash and dust that which never should have lived!

Once Upon A Time
by Frankenstein Cast

Elizabeth:

So long ago,
So far away,
Once upon a time.

There lived a young girl,
aloft in a tower,
who cowered behind the gates of her heart.
Her dragons and demons
kept her in prison

So long ago,
So far away,
Once upon a time.

She wept every night,
alone and lonely,
only lamenting her sorrowful fate.
She longed for a dream
that belonged to her only
Once upon a time.

And word of her plight
soon spread far and wide
and suitors would ride in
from faraway lands.
Never one able to suffer fools gladly
madly she'd suffer at all these fools hands

Sadly she tried
to be brave and be strong
And without any warning
A young prince came along.

The fire he possessed,
he unchained her spirit.
When she would hear it,
his laughter brought love.
Suddenly, then, as if borne on his magic
she soared from the tower above.

He swept her away
to his palace of wonder
and soon laid asunder
her demons so neatly.
For she was his muse
and he'd never refuse
and he'd win o'er her heart
for he loved her completely.

then the cruel world
with its storms and its quaking
set forth to taking
her prince by the hand.
And led him away
so the maiden would see
the prince was magic,
he was merely a man.

The seasons must change,
and laughter fell silent,
and time takes its toll
on lovers and friends.
And even fairy tales must have an end.
So long ago,
So far away,
back to the dream in her mind.

No more alone,
yet again lonely,
Once upon a time.

The Music of Love
by Frankenstein Cast

Agatha:

Away, away, come away with me
When evening falls and shadows flee
Come stay, my dear, come stay with me
We'll keep you safe and warm
We'll keep you far from harm
No tears will find you here.

Blind Man:

We live in simple harmony

Both:

The song of life is all we need
The music of love
The music of love

Away sweet child, come away with me
Demons and dragons, let them all be
Tomorrow's worries, all will keep
We have everything we need
The simple things indeed
A song to bring you sleep!

Creature:

For the first time, pain washed away
For the first time, I saw a way
There might be a place for me
A place with a family
Love and shelter for all of my days!

Agatha and Blind Man:

We live in simple harmony!

Creature:

Keep me safe and warm

Agatha and Blind Man:

The song of life is all we need!

Creature:

Keep me far from harm

Agatha (In harmony):

Music, music, pretty little music of love!

Blind Man (In harmony):

Away, away, come away with me
Stay, stay, come stay with me

Creature (In harmony):

Music and love, gifts from above
Music and love

All: The music of love!

Creature:

Finally, peace.

Why?
by Frankenstein Cast

William:

[Spoken] But, Victor says that every question must be asked. And I agree.

Tell me why does the breeze blow
Why do both the flower and the weed grow
And tell me why do men fight wars?

Why does God even care
Why does he listen to our prayers
Doesn't he already know what we're praying for?

Justine:

Curious little boy
No wonder you're your father's joy
Now not an educated girl am I
But I know the hardest questions
Begin with Why

William:

[Spoken] Alright then...

Tell me how do the birds go
And just how do they get along with birds so

Justine:

How do you know when you're in love?

William:

[Spoken] Ugh!

How do you know just who to trust?

Justine:

[Spoken] Whom!

William:

How does injustice get so just?

Both:

How do we deserve all the things we're dreaming of?

William:

Do I really look like my mother?

Justine:

You're as inquisitive as your brother!

William:

Do you like being my nanny?

Justine:

It's a far more challenging job than many!

William:

Why, Justine, do you tease me?

Justine:

I don't know, it seems to please me
William, can't you see through me by now
Can't you tell, haven't you known
I think of you as if my own
You've no greater champion than I
Just remember that I love you
And never question How or If or Why

The Modern Prometheus
by Frankenstein Cast

Frankenstein:

Behold a woman waiting to be born.
A Venus sculpted from the flesh.
I control her very breath,
I can take her from this death
to something you, alive, and fresh!

I have the power to control
the miracle of creation.
I, a man, will now give birth,
which makes me god upon this earth!
So why this trepidation?

No, I've gone too far to turn back now.
There's nothing left i need decide.
I am the modern Prometheus
and ready to create this bride!

Henry:

What do you mean, "create a bride?"
Is this the science you conceived?
You vowed this life behind!
A vow I foolishly believed!

Frankenstein:

Henry, I invited you once
to join me in discovery.
I'm giving you yet another chance.

I've gone too far to turn back now!
And soon you'll see I'm justified!
I am the modern Prometheus,
Ready to create this bride!

Henry:

You mustn't try to act like God!
Prometheus was merely myth!
And if you toy with nature's course
your fate will be the same as his!

Frankenstein:

I cannot believe what I am hearing!
I'm shocked by your retort!
Henry, dear, you disappoint.
Sorry, friend, you miss my point!
Your vision falls severely short.

I'll change the course of history!
Please see beyond your petty fears.
I was once a dreamer,
now I'm man's redeemer!
We're on the verge of new frontiers!

She's going to be perfect!

The Creature:

It's gone too far to turn back now!

Henry:

Can't you see what you've become?

Frankenstein:

A god is here on earth!

The Creature:

My wishes shall not be denied!

Henry:

This science is insanity!

Frankenstein and Creature:

Behold the modern Prometheus!

Henry:

You cannot save man (something)

Frankenstein:

(something)
I'm sorry Henry, but this is my destiny!

Henry:

And this is mine:
to save you from yourself!

What Have You Done?
by Frankenstein Cast

The Creature:

What have you done?
You've murdered her!

Frankenstein:

You are the murderer!

The Creature:

Liar!
You promised to me!

Frankenstein:

I was a fool to have

The Creature:

What of your destiny?

Frankenstein:

You are the children of Hell!

The Creature:

Your children as well!

Frankenstein:

You're a fiend!

The Creature:

Of your hand!

Frankenstein:

A mistake!

The Creature:

That YOU made!

Frankenstein:

You must die!

The Creature:

And I shall,
but not before a price is paid!

(Blessed Day Chours echoes in background)

...Your bride awaits you.

The Workings of The Heart
by Frankenstein Cast

Elizabeth:

This brilliant mind, these gentle hands,
can build a life by parts.
and yet you still don't understand
the workings of the heart.

Frankenstein:

I tried to make a world for you
where death would never touch our lives.
Have I been a brilliant fool,
Seeing only with his eyes?

Elizabeth:

You couldn't know the consequence
of all your noble arts.
But can't you see,
they pale against,
the workings of the heart.

Frankenstein:

You should have left me years ago.
You should have trusted me much less.
Why did you choose to love me so?
Through your pain and emptiness?

Elizabeth:

I stayed because I love you
and everything you are.
My heart has always followed
it's only guiding star.

Frankenstein:

How can I live without your simple smile?
How will I love without your touch?
While I was chasing dreams I thought worthwhile,
my dream was you.
I never knew that I loved you this much!

Elizabeth:

I'd always knew you'd say these words to me.
I saw the love within you from the start.
Don't blame yourself for what you cannot be
And promise me
You'll learn to see
The workings of the heart!

No life can last forever!

Frankenstein:

I tried to make a world for you!

Elizabeth:

No man has (something)

Frankenstein:

Where death would never make us part!

Elizabeth:

A dream will perish never!

Frankenstein:

But I am just a brilliant fool...

Elizabeth:

A fool cannot know love

Both:

Without the workings of the heart!

Elizabeth:

And my heart will never leave you

Frankenstein:

I know my love will make you stronger!

Elizabeth:

How I so want to be with you

Frankenstein:

Stay at my side a little longer!

Both:

Through darkest nights and lost days,
our hearts will love for always.
That's something even death cannot undo!

Frankenstein:

I tried to make a world for you
Where death would be no more.
And now this love I never knew
has given so much more.

So rest your head,
and close your eyes.
Let your pain and tears depart.
I will keep you safe inside
The working of my heart!

The Coming of The Dawn
by Frankenstein Cast

Frankenstein:

I have searched across the years
for a glimpse beyond the tears.
Not caring once for those I left behind.

Having strayed so far from home
I deserve to stand alone
While I chase the secrets of the night
I never saw the beauty in the light!

The sun that never rose
the dawn that never came!
My morning has deserted me
with no one left but me to blame!

None are blind as those who will not see
And now the light is here
and everything is clear,
but now I fear the coming of the dawn
has come too late for me.

In the theatre of my mind,
though the shadows intertwine
it seemed my every step was strong and true
and I acted just for me
on my stage of fantasy
for no one fears the morning's gentle beams
except the fool who lives inside his dreams!

The sun that never rose
the dawn that never came
my morning has deserted me
to bear the darkness of my shame
reaching for tomorrow
I have lost today.
And now that all that's gray
is fading into day
I only pray the coming of the dawn
has come to light the way!

Is this the great discovery
for which I've waited?
Is this how a man is truly created?

A sun that never rose
the dawn that never came
Why do the things we have seem precious
only once they've slipped away?
Dreams of glory have their price to pay
But far beyond the night
Lie promises of light
and maybe with the coming of the dawn
there comes another day!

Maybe with the coming of the dawn
there comes another day!

Amen (Reprise)
by Frankenstein Cast

I had hoped that I was wrong. But I can see that I guessed correctly. Your desire to destroy me was so strong that you
Followed me all this way. Over these many months and miles. Even to your own death. Wait. Save what little strength you ave
Left. There is one more thing you must do before you die.

I never asked to be reborn
Brought back,
To a world of hate.
I'll finally leave this life of scorn.
And seek my peace
Before the light of Heaven's gate!

Frankenstein:

This isn't what I came to do!
You have not been my prey.
Although it's true I've followed you.
There's something I've come to say.

The Creature:

No words! No lies!
It's time to die!
We'll meet again in Hell!

Frankenstein:

I have come to you
To seek your grace,
To beg forgiveness from you
And accept the blame

Damn the man who does not give his all
To help his son to live.
I've come to give this father's...

The Creature:

What have I done?
How can this be?
How cruel the hand of fate.
To take two souls
Too blind to see.
And give them sight too late?

Now close your eyes,
Lay down your head.
For soon we'll rest among the dead.
Go to sleep,
Hold on to me.

Let the darkness set us free.

(screams in agony)

I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, father!

Behold the sorrow born of dreams!
The demon and his god,
Abandon immortality!
I'll float upon the ice
I am born to see,
Here to freeze and finally die again

And while I can't absolve our deeds,
This thirst for playing god
At last will end
And so this madness dies with me
Ne'er to return

Prelude
by Frankenstein Cast

WALTON (speaking)
Captain Robert Walton, in a letter to his sister - November 9th, 1793. It was just north of the Arctic Circle that I
discovered adrift, on a floe of ice beside our ship, a wretch, near death. In the days that followed he would tell me a tale
strange and horrifying: his life - a twisted path of destruction, his deeds - almost too incredible to recount.

FRANKENSTEIN
I am the innocent
I am the damned.

WALTON (speaking)
I alone know the heart of this man...

FRANKENSTEIN
A fount of delusion
A father of dreams.

WALTON (speaking)
...for I am still haunted by the faces of those he loved...

ALPHONSE FRANKENSTEIN
His adoring father, who could see in him only greatness.

CAROLINE BEAUFORT
The mother, whose loving spirit he could not bear to lose.

WILLIAM FRANKENSTEIN
The young brother, who worshipped him.

JUSTINE MORITZ
And the faithful servant, who understood why.

FRANKENSTEIN
I am not a madman!

HENRY CLERVAL
The soul who was his dearest friend in life.

WALTON
And the woman who, from their childhood days, had been his -

ELIZABETH
- one true love.

FRANKENSTEIN
I can hear my name!

WALTON
His story is the prophecy of nightmares.

FRANKENSTEIN
Blackened by my crime!

JUSTINE MORITZ
Yet it must be told.

FRANKENSTEIN
Haunting me and taunting
As it echoes through all time...

WALTON
His name... is Frankenstein.

These Hands
by Frankenstein Cast

CREATURE:

These hands,
How I fear for these hands.
How I wonder if ever had these hands been held with compassion,
Could they do what they've done,
These hands?

What of these eyes?
Blind with hate are these eyes.
Could it once be that someone gazed into these eyes with affection,
And saw good deep within
These eyes?

And why,
Having tasted of vengeance,
Do these lips curl with madness and pain, crying in vain?
A soul that could love is now helplessly chained to these hands!

And these ears still hear her crying,
And will never know laughter or song, ever so long
As blood of the innocent runs red upon these hands!

These detestable hands!
And this terrible hide, with its poison inside,
Hated limbs and foul heart, I would tear them apart,
If I only could feel what I felt when I held her within
These hands!

Unforgiving, unmerciful hands!
These unfeeling, contemptible hands!
And our end will not come
'Till justice is done,
By this man!

The Proposition
by Frankenstein Cast

FRANKENSTEIN:
I created you with a noble purpose--
To free mankind from the fear of death!
If I had known it would lead to such bloodshed,
I would never have given you breath!

CREATURE:
Has it not pierced your brilliant mind,
Our actions cannot be undone?
I will reign fear upon your kind,
Unless you now complete what you've begun!

Listen carefully, Victor Frankenstein:
I have a proposition to present to you!
You have one chance to redeem your transgressions--
You have one last experiment to do!

Create a woman to share this strife,
Make her as vile as my darkest pain!
Grant me the joy of a kindred wife--
In return, you shall never see me again.

FRANKENSTEIN:
Never! Impossible! Preposterous!
Your scheme is outrageous, absurd!
One more just as monstrous--
I'll not inflict such horror on this world!

CREATURE:
What's wrong, what's right?
Do you decide?
I'm more than blood and bone!
I need a mate--
One made as I!
I won't exist alone!

FRANKENSTEIN:
Who are you to make demands,
Who's now twice a criminal--
My brother's blood upon your hands,
Asking me to serve your will!

A second beast to bring new terror
[Creature groans]
Upon the young and innocent?
I'll not willingly repeat my error!
You will not get my consent!

CREATURE:
Victor, you complete this task,
And end your family's mourning!
It's the last I'll ever ask.
The boy was just a warning!

Create another wretch as I,
A love I cannot be denied,
A soul content to live beside me.
I'll take my bride and run away,
Someplace safe where we can stay
Far from man and his insanity!

FRANKENSTEIN:
I think it wrong, I think it sick!
A corruption of biology!

CREATURE:
But here's your chance to make it right
And offer an apology!

FRANKENSTEIN:
Can I undo the great mistake?
Erase the sorrow from my wake,
Never again to face this demon?
And might I still attain the dream,
With now a woman as the means,
Bestowing life upon my mission?

FRANKENSTEIN, CREATURE, CHORUS:
Life everlasting, reanimation,
A flawless new design!
The finest woman in all creation,
And she will be--

CREATURE:
Mine!

FRANKENSTEIN:
But softer now! A female frame,
And agile hands required!
And one who was lost, may yet be reclaimed,
Reborn of heaven's fires!

CREATURE:
This is your chance! You will atone,
And never see me again!
Master your fate and face the unknown,
And bring this nightmare to an end!

FRANKENSTEIN:
This is my chance! I will atone!

CREATURE:
Here's your last chance to atone!

FRANKENSTEIN:
I'll finally know peace!

CREATURE:
As will I!

FRANKENSTEIN, CREATURE:
One more leap/One leap into the unknown,
And curse the name of Frankenstein!
