United fans were always critical of Rio Ferdinand when he was at West Ham and Leeds United. The sarcastic cries of 'Rio for England' were probably a reflection of the media's obsession with the cockney defender and their blindness to Manchester's very own (and arguably better) Wes Brown. Times have changed, Rio's a £30 million red and his performances on the field seem to have won many fans over. Off the field though, his recent failure to attend a drugs test (resulting in an 8 month ban), hasn't done him any favours with his critics amongst United fans. OK, we paid over the odds for him, but Rio's still a class..but stupid...player.
