Gallows Hymn - Straumfjord Lyrics

Gallows Hymn - Straumfjord Lyrics

Sailing way in search of foreign shore
Navigating sky, by the stars up above
We left our land, and all those we knew before
To moor our ships in a realm we can call our own

Long white waves rise and fall again
Crashing, raining down, sinking to the deep with them
Our journey long, where no man has gone before
To find new land, a home on a distant fjord

The wind is strong, our direction is set off course
Crashing skies of lightening, the thunder rules the north
Auroral guidance showing us not all is lost
Our faith remaining, and boats making it across!

Crashing! Waves - and - sea!
Battered! Planks - and - beams!
Thunder! Rain - and - cold!
Icebergs! Clouds and fog!

Crashing! Waves - and - sea!
Battered! Planks - and - beams!
Thunder! Rain - and - cold!
Icebergs! Clouds and fog!

We sail along the coast, starboard side we row
West lying land, unexplored out to what we know
Barren land, finding icy rock and snow
Further south, our supplies start to dwindle low

Rolling waves, how much further till we cannot go
Before we falter, rest down beneath with souls below
Sharks, whales and serpents lie beneath the deep
What evil waits, waking from abyssal sleep

Crashing! Waves - and - sea!
Battered! Planks - and - beams!
Thunder! Rain - and - cold!
Icebergs! Clouds and fog!

Crashing! Waves - and - sea!
Battered! Planks - and - beams!
Thunder! Rain - and - cold!
Icebergs! Clouds and fog!

With promises of fine drink
We waited...
Spurring us to journey to these foreign shores

Once a warrior of Odin
I now wield but a vessel
No sweet mead do I drink, kneeling at the spring

We'll return to where our countrymen await
Head our longships to scout the seas white plains
Let the wielders of sword storms lay the land
Unwearied, unbroken and stout from flesh of whale!
