Driving out from Big D to Cowtown
My little buddy Butch and I
Looked up to see the witch of springtime
Brewing dark trouble in the sky
Big ol' Fort Worth Tornado
Dancing demon of the wind
Dark black Cowtown twister
Sure hope my life it doesn't end
Had a show to do at Billy Bob's
That wet stormy Texas tuesday night
The rain was coming down in spirals
I knew then things weren't at all right
The warning sirens shreiked as a wall cloud
Dropped from the blackened sky straight ahead
I pointed and said, "It's my first twister!"
Butch's face was twisted with ghostly dread
Big ol' Fort Worth Tornado
Slinking snakelike through the air
Black scary Cowtown Twister
Will the city still exist when we get there?
Butch tuned to the Wolf and the DJ said
"Tornado warning for Tarrant county now!
It's on the ground near 35 and 30"
I said, "we should be seeing it by now
The sky was as green as money
The clouds as black as good old Texas tea
I said, "boy howdy, this is the big one!"
I looked to the right and what did I see?
That big ol Fort Worth Tornado
Spinning just a thousand feet away
That snake-like Cowtown Twister
On the ground and heading straight our way
"What do we do?" said Butch in a panic
"Stop under the bridge and hang on for the ride!"
Front to back then back to front the rain blew
That Rodeo was rocking side to side
Like a roller coaster ride without the puking
I'll never forget the thrill I got that day
Watching that black spinning funnel
On the ground and heading straight our way
Dark spinning Fort Worth tornado
Wizard of Oz has nothing on you
That's the story of the Cowtown Twister
When it was over all I could say was
"Whew! Hot Damn! What a rush!"
